Hi all, If anyone has suggestions on the following situation, I'd be very grateful. Thomas CHARLES was born about 1803 at 8 Old Jewry St in London to Elizabeth CHARLES -the father is unknown. The baptism for Thomas CHARLES is listed in the Shropshire Parish Register in Burford with this entry: 1804 Feb. 5 Thomas, natural s. Elizabeth CHARLES. We are not sure what happened to his mother, Elizabeth CHARLES, who was baptized in 1782 in Burford, and was the daughter of Peter & Martha CHARLES. Perhaps ELIZABETH eventually married? The CHARLES family resided in Shropshire Co. for many generations, especially in Burford, before & after the birth of Thomas in 1803. Thomas died there in 1873. My maternal grandfather was Elmer ALLEN and he born about 1894 was orphaned at an early age in the State of Idaho, United States. Recently my maternal uncle consented to do Y-DNA testing and we had an identical match to someone in Canada who is a descendant of Thomas CHARLES. This suggests the possibility that the father of Thomas CHARLES born in 1803 was a Mr. ALLEN. Does anyone know if there is significance to Thomas being born at 8 Old Jewry St in London - what was at that location? What records, if any, might reveal his father's name? There is an Elizabeth CHARLES, of about the right age (60 years) in the 1841 census for the township of Crickheath in the household of 25-year old Cadwaleder JONES but I don't know if she is the mother of Thomas CHARLES. Any ideas or guidance would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Glenis House Sherwood Maine United States
