    3. Hello Jenny I was having problems sending emails earlier so I sent you a direct message. Can you tell us the forenames of your people from Leaton and the approximate dates. The local 'big house' was Leaton Knolls which was owned by the LLOYD family until it was demolished in the mid 1900's. Leaton Hall still exists and is situated at the junction of the Shrewsbury to Baschurch road with the road leading to Leaton level crossing near Bomere Heath. Have a look at the 1888 map on the link below http://www.british-history.ac.uk/mapsheet.aspx?compid=55135&sheetid=7318&ox=2445&oy=946&zm=1&czm=1&x=100&y=231 If you are not local and would like some photographs I can do some for you. 3. Hi Jenny, Regarding your last question.  If you google 'Atcham registration district' the first answer you get will be www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/atcham.html This tells you that Atcham registration district was created 1 July 1837 and was succeeded by Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Clun & Forden districts on 1 Oct 1935 - it also shows subdistricts. This is an easy way to see information relevant to each registration district. Best wishes, Sue > > Some of my WITHERS and WATKIN ancestors hail from the Shrewsbury area, notably Leaton. Do any of these fit in with the rest of your information? 3. Just a thought. There is a fairly new website which is mostly focused on Derbyshire called Yesterdays Journey by Mike Spencer - you might find something there at: <http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm>http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm Cheers Graham Oz

    3. Hi Dorothy Wish I could help - we have most Shropshire BMD's to 1812 here at our State Library, except Shifnal. Nor Buxton in Derbyshire. But I do have a very pleasant colour post-card of The Broad Walk, Buxton circa 1900 that I can send to you off-list if you wish. Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz

    3. I am having great difficulty in finding a lead to a newcomer to my tree Margaret Mansell. Margaret married Benjamin Prialee in Shifnal on the 8th February 1782. Benjamin's name alone is giving me a big headache. The newest transcription was PRIOLEAU but as been transcribed as PRIOLEAN, PRIOLU, PRESLEE, BIOLEAN and now I think PRICLER and PRIALEE. .Benjamin and Margaret I think have a son Benjamin Priolu baptised in 1785 at Buxton Derbyshire and a daughter Betty Pricler also gives her birthplace as Buxton c 1790.She goes on to marry Hugh Hartley amongst their children is Benjamin Prioleau Hartley and a Margaret Mansell Hartley .I am sure I am now connected to the right families but would appreciate it if anybody could give me further info on Margaret or Benjamin. Any further info from the marriage transcript would be wonderful Dorothy Livesey

    1. [ENG-SHROP] New member seeking help tracing Susannah HARRIS
    2. vt
    3. Hello list & thank you Sherry. I am hoping to find more information about the life & ancestry in England of Susannah HARRIS, native of Ludlow, born c.1813, daughter of John HARRIS, mother as yet unknown. Susannah was transported to Sydney,NSW,Australia as a convict, aged 16 years, aboard the ship 'Lucy Davidson' which sailed from London 10th July 1829 & arrived Sydney 29th November 1829. As best as I have determined so far Susannah was tried & convicted twice in the County of Salop, firstly at the April, 1828 session for Ludlow, age 15 years, convicted of larceny, sentenced to 6 weeks inprisonment, & secondly on the 17th July 1828 at the Quarter sessions of Salop ,town & liberties of Ludlow, convicted of stealing or shoplifting, sentenced to 7 years. In the Shrewsbury Chronicle, page 3, of 25th July 1828 there is a paragraph that mentions Sussannah HARRIES or HARRLES, it is hard to read. "At Ludlow sessions, James CORFIELD, Daniel WAINWRIGHT, and William EVERALL were convicted of stealing three oak poles, the property of James GRAHAM; also Susannah HARRIES, for stealing 13 yards of sarcenet ribbon, the property of Maria PEACH, were sentenced to 7 years transportation. They were lodged in our gaol on Wednesday. On Susannah's certificate of freedom, granted in 1836, she is described as a native of Ludlow, born 1813, servant, 5'4 & 1/2" tall, fair complexion, light brown hair, dark hazel eyes, wife of David LUNT. David LUNT & Susannah HARRIS were granted permission to marry on 5th December 1831, a son Thomas LUNT was born 17th May 1832. Susannah absconded from David LUNT in March 1834. She then entered a 25 year relationship with Joseph STEVENS, the first of their 11 children was born in August of 1835. Susannah died at Bathurst, NSW, Australia on 10th March 1887. I have transcripts of most of the family bdm certs & convict records issued in Australia but none give any further clues to Susannah's parentage or early life in England. Any & all help or suggestions will be much appreciated. Regards, Vicki, Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia.
