    1. [ENG-SHROP] Hannah EDGE near Market Drayton
    2. Barbara Petura
    3. Hello Dennis and Peter, I also used the IGI search for church records in Shropshire for a Hannah Edge born about 1760 near Market Drayton. I have ancestors from that area so have looked at lots of maps to find the small villages around there. Imagining that Hannah Edge married between ages 15 and 25, I set the search parameters to the year 1759 plus or minus 5 years. The results I got for all of Shropshire were these: > Ann Edge, Gender: Female Christening: 20 JAN 1761 Whitchurch, Shropshire, >England > > Ann or Anne Edge, Gender: Female Birth: About 1763 Waters Upton, Shropshire, >England / she married Luke Morris > No christenings for that 10 years for a Hannah Edge  [Peter, can you share the results you got? I'm not getting the output you did. Thanks]. I would have thought Ann Edge of Whitchurch would be a good option for you, as Whitchurch is in northern Shropshire about 10 miles from Market Drayton, as you likely know. Here is a helpful map: http://www.northshropshire.co.uk/north-shropshire-map/ However, the IGI for this Ann Edge shows she died in 1763: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/igi/family_group_record.asp?familyid=66295779&indi_id=500031625824&lds=1&region=2&frompage=1 Searching the IGI records for Hannah Edge, Birth/Christening, 1730 - 1770, Shropshire (Salop), England, British Isles, Exact Spelling: Off, I get 16 results [Ann or Hannah] but none that are in the right time period or location. I wonder if your Hannah Edge is simply not in the IGIs? Or, is there a chance that she was consideerably older than the typical marriage age of 18-22? John Shropshire and Hannah Edge are on this geneaology site, but no birthdate for Hannah: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/a/k/Dennis-Baker-North-Yorkshire/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0162.html Hannah Edge is in 3 family trees on Ancestry.com, with her birth date either about 1760 or just 1760. No one has a birth location for her either, using just Shropshire or Shropshire area. Searching just for EDGE surname in Shropshire, I see a good number of results for towns such as Hodnet, Prees, Wem, Whitchurch - all in the greater Market Drayton area. Wish I could have helped, Dennis. Barbara NOTE 1: Hannah was a frequent "familiar name" for women christened Ann. NOTE 2: The marriage of Hannah Edge and John Shropshire was on 7 Feb 1779 according to the IGI record for Market Drayton, Shropshire, England.   ---------------------------------------------------------  Date: Mon, 2 Aug 2010 09:43:15 +1000 From: "Peter Booth" <pbo08596@bigpond.net.au> Subject: Re: [ENG-SHROP] look up please-HANNAH EDGE m1790 Market Drayton To: <eng-shropshire-plus@rootsweb.com> Dennis wrote:-     I would be most grateful if anyone could locate the birthdate/baptism of a Hannah EDGE who married John Shropshire at Mkt Drayton in Feb.1779.She was probably born in that area around 1760. Dennis,     IGI has 10 possible birth / christenings 1755-1775, so you probably need to look at the closest parish to Market Drayton or get somebody to lookup her 1779 marriage and see if she is "of the parish". You could also narrow down the possibilities by working through the 10 entries one by one and trying to match them with know marriages of the time.     Peter in Sydney

Hi Robert The Phillimore parish registers for Albrighton and Shifnal are online and can be downloaded from Archive.org (Put shropshire into the search and then I think that they are under Diocese of lichfield volumes). Albrighton is in Vol 3 and is from, I think, 1555-1812, cant remember which one contains Shifnal, butr I know its there). And for others who may not know this site it has dozens of Shropshire Registers. Also contains many out of print rare books from 18th 19th century which can be a goldmine for info on relatives. Apart from Burke's peerage, and the Rev. Blakeway book on Albrighton village, does anyone know of any good info on the family or its pedigree? Unhelpfully the surname was spelled a dozen different ways (Whyghtwick, Whiteweeke, Whitwick etc.) They are probably related to the Wightwicks of Wightwick Manor fame in nearby Tettenhall/Wolverhampton. The microfiche collection for Knockin (such a small place) from 1661 to 1812 is less than one fiche, whereas Kinnerley is four fiche. This Mary would have been of full age. I just noticed that the IGI gives a Mary Griffiths christened at Kinnerley 1766 (still a minor though, perhaps, but not necessarily so as she could have been born a year prior to christening.) Next time I'll have a look at the fiche again to see if I missed that one, or what. Might be some clues. Might get lucky. Could be it was indexed as only MY! There are also a number of Marys of elligible age being christened at Oswestry. Cheers Graham

    2. Barbara Petura
    3. Peter, Thank you so much for taking time to look for Booth individuals in Market Drayton, Shropshire. The Hugh Wallis site is always helpful. You found more IGI records for children of George Booth and Sarah of Market Drayton or that area than I did: Mary Booth - Female Christening: AUG 1795 Market Drayton, Shropshire, England Ann Booth - Female Christening: 9 AUG 1797 Market Drayton, Shropshire, England Sarah Booth - Female Christening: 25 FEB 1807 Market Drayton, Shropshire, England Mary Booth - Female Christening: 28 FEB 1807 Market Drayton, Shropshire, England These seem to be the children of the George Booth and Sarah Shuker whose 22 MAY 1794 marriage in Market Drayton is found in an IGI. Likely there were more children in amongst these. You're very right about not jumping to any conclusion about these being the parents and sisters of my Joseph Booth, born 26 Nov 1808 in Shakeford, a small village just south of Market Drayton and likely christened in Market Drayton. Perhaps I need to borrow microfilm for the Market Drayton church records, looking for an alternate spelling of the surname. Or try that with the IGI search. The two Joseph Booth baptisms you found don't immediately ring true, as he always reported Drayton, Market Drayton or Shakeford [near Market Drayton] as his birthplace. Of course the family might have moved.... Again, thank you. Click on each batch and search using just the Booth surname. It looks like the earliest record is the marriage of Gerard Booth in 1697. Try and work from there.     As for George and Sarah, if you do a parent search, you'll find a Mary 1795, Ann 1797, Mary 1807 and Sarah 1807. Not all these appear in official batches. I also wonder about dates as 1807 Mary has 28th and Sarah 25th. It may be a typo.     There are only two christening records for a Joseph between 1798 -1818 in Shropshire. 1809 in Wellington father Joseph, 1816 in Dawley Magna father George. It could be Joseph wasn't christened until age 8.     My assessment is that some of the children were either not christened or records are missing. The later additions of Sarah and Ann add weight to this.     But that means you can't really jump one way or the other on the origins of Joseph.     Peter Booth in Sydney

Our very best evidence is that Samuel's father was Thomas WEAVER who was christened at Rushbury 14 Sep 1572, and may be the Thomas buried at Dowles 24 Feb 1610. Thomas married Margaret COWPER at Rushbury 28 May 1590. Thomas' father was William WEAVER, born about 1540. On 17 Nov 1565, he married Anne ROBERTS, in Chelmarsh.. The parish marriage records says that William was "from Worfield parish". Responses will be very welcomed. Charlie Weaver, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA <patchas@triad.rr.com> 336-765-9635
