    3. Mike, I had a look at the Border Counties up to date Advertizer indexes in Oswestry today for your Jacob and Parsonage surnames. Nothing of interest I am afraid. I also looked at the Shropshire and Montgomery Post indexes 1881 to 1893 I found several Parsonages there if this is not out of your prescribed area, I will send them to you off list if you would like.Leon --- On Sun, 30/1/11, Mike Morris <morrisind@rogers.com> wrote: > From: Mike Morris <morrisind@rogers.com> > Subject: Re: [ENG-SHROP] LLOYD FAMILY KNOCKIN AND KINNERLEY > To: eng-shropshire-plus@rootsweb.com > Date: Sunday, 30 January, 2011, 15:35 > Hello Leon, > it seems a long time since I last saw your name  :)) > > All my best and my thanks for all the help you gave me in > the past. > > Mike Morris (Researching the PARSONAGE and JACOB name in > Oswestry) > Toronto Canada > > > > ----- Original Message ---- > > From: LEON KNAPPER <leon.knapper1@btinternet.com> > > To: ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com > > Sent: Sun, January 30, 2011 8:48:32 AM > > Subject: [ENG-SHROP] LLOYD FAMILY KNOCKIN AND > KINNERLEY > > > >  On Saturday in Oswestry after a discussion with > a lady about the Lloyds of  > >Knockin and Kinnerley > > RegardsLeon <snipped> > > REMEMBER - The question you are asking may have already > been answered. > Threaded Archives at - > http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS/Archives > > > Searchable Archives at - > http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS/ > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS-request@rootsweb.com > with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the > subject and the body of the message >

    3.  On Saturday in Oswestry after a discussion with a lady about the Lloyds of Knockin and Kinnerley I came across references to a member of the above family. Not sure whether my contact subscribes to the Shropshire list but just in case here is the information. Mr John Lloyd of Knockin opened a grocery shop calling it London House in Bailey Street Oswestry circa 1860. In 1867 he moved to Willow Street Oswestry opening a drapery and outfitting business. 3. Christine, I find myself wanting more information that I feel you already know.. What census years did you look up, where did you find her and who else was in the household? You told us she married in 1891, but didn't give a spouse. So we would have to go and look. It's important you convey all you know to relieve those trying to help of doing the same lookups that you've already done. I can see five Mary SHEMILT births on FreeBMD between 1865-1875. Leaving out Mary Elizabeth and Mary Ann, there are two Mary's and one Mary Ellen. The Mary Ellen is registered at Stone in Sep 1873. If you know her age from 1891 census, just before her marriage, it might fit the 1873 birth, making her 18. I'm guessing she might give fictitious data because she was under age. Again, if you provided data from censuses from 1881 through to 1911, we would know that. If the data fits, I'd suggest you should obtain a copy of the 1873 birth from GRO, which should give names and ages of parents. Peter in Sydney

    3. Thank you for your fast response, Mary Ellen 1873 is not mine, she also married in 1891 to a Brown, I have tracked her and her subsequent children. I was hopeful at first and as I gleaned more information it became more obvious that she was not mine,I have a photograph of Mary Ellen (Alma )both as a young woman and then in her later life. My husband knew his grandmother who was killed in a road accident, she never talked of her early life, in fact my father in law (the youngest of fourteen children) also knew nothing at all about her. There is a man here who has created a SHEMILT family tree but has shown little or no interest in my lady, he says that it is not possible for her to be a SHEMILT, however i am in communication with some Shemilt people who say that according to her photographs she is definately a birth SHEMILT. The man that she married was John Shelmerdine, they married at St Mark's Gorton, Manchester September 1891, I can't connect the witnesses so I presume that they were witnesses of convenience also. Once I can establish that she is a legitimate SHEMILT then I can extend my studies. Thanking you for your interest Christine ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Booth" <pbo08596@bigpond.net.au> To: <eng-shropshire-plus@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2011 11:52 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-SHROP] Mary SHEMILT > Christine, > > I find myself wanting more information that I feel you already know.. > > What census years did you look up, where did you find her and who else > was in the household? 2. Christine May Shelmerdine
    3. Help to solve a mystery. Does anyone have any connections or information on a MARY ELLEN (ALMA) SHEMILT. It is claimed that she was born in 1870-3, the later census have said Wolverhampton but family claim she was born in Shropshire/Staffordshire. On her marriage certificate it says that her father was called Thomas, a farmer. She married up in Lancashire in September 1891. I cant trace her anywhere, rumour says that she was born in a big house, her mother died and her father remarried and she Mary Ellen was either cast out or sent away. When she married my husbands grandfather they gave an address of convenience as their residence. I have a large family tree of the SHEMILT family but at this point I have had to sever it at the point of Mary Ellen until I can prove her parentage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanking you in anticipation Christine

    1. [ENG-SHROP] IGI Marriage Madeley - John DAVIES and Catherine GARBETT
    2. Hello, I'm new to the list and am hoping someone can help me with the following. I have found a marriage on the IGI for a marriage DAVIES/GARBETT on 27 June 1803 Madeley which has been submitted by an LDS member (batch no. 6932104). When searching the Hugh Wallis batch numbers for Madeley this marriage doesn't show up, nor does it show up on a search on the new Family Search website. I can only think that this is a non conformist marriage. I am researching a John and Catherine Davies from Dawley Magna and have have found several baptisms of children of a John and Catherine Davies from 1801 to 1830 at Dawley Magna. The only marriage I have been able to find in the locality that matches the dates of the above baptisms is the single IGI entry. How do I go about finding out exactly where this marriage took place? Obviously the records have survived otherwise the entry in the IGI would not be possible. I would like to be able to verify that the information on the IGI is correct. Any assistance much appreciated. Thanks, Carole

    3. G'day Carole The Batch No. starting with the 69 means that it was submitted in 1969 by an LDS Member. This Batch and others starting with two digits instead of a letter do not refer to records extracted from a Parish Register which is why the batch does not show up on the Hugh Wallis site. The person who submitted the data may not have obtained it from an OPR etc, but from other sources such as a family bible etc. The Non-Conformist OPR have been indexed are available on < http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/ >. This is a pay per view site with a basic free index. However with a bit of detective work the index can provide you with enough information to then locate the LDS microfilm of the record which you can order into your local LDS Library. 2. Michael J Hulme
    3. Hello For those of you who can watch UK Channel 4 TV a new series of six one hour programmes starts at 9pm on Thursday 20 January 2011 where a group are going to build a full-size Roman villa. The really interesting part of this to people with a Shropshire connection is that they are doing the building at Wroxeter, the modern name for Viroconivm which was the fourth largest Roman city in England, situated on the London-Holyhead road (A5) just SE of Shrewsbury. I don't know whether our overseas readers will be able to watch this but they might like to try the Channel 4 web site '4 on Demand' http://www.channel4.com/programmes/4od which gives access to past programmes. The programme title is 'Rome Wasn't Built in a Day'. Mike Shropshire, UK
