    1. Remember Roman Grand?
    2. Laura Thomas
    3. Good evening Listers, A few months back I posted asking where Roman Grand is, as Elizabeth CROSS, my 2xgreat grandmother said she was born there. Well, I still don't know where Roman Grand is, but after a lot of searching I found her birth and marriage certs, and she was born in Chirbury, to Samuel & Elizabeth CROSS, nee MARSTON. So, if anyone's researching either of these families, I'd love to hear from you off-list. Regards, Ellie

    2. Steve Hayward
    3. Hello Joanne NEWBERY I believe your Robert HUMPHREYS was my 2GGrand Uncle. I am descended from his younger sister Susannah who married a HAYWARD. As Robert is not in my direct line I have done little to trace his descendants save for his son John who married Sarah GRIFFITHS in 1840 and had about 8 children (1843-1859). Similarly, I don't know anything of Robert's wife Mary, especially as she died before 1851. However, I do have about 5 generations of HUMPHREYS preceding Robert, and much on his other siblings. I would be happy to provide this if you will contact me offline. I would be happy to learn of Robert's other decendants through Thomas and William (or Elizabeth). I include the 1851 entry covering Robert and Elizabeth. 1851 census 30 March 1851 Civil Parish or Township: Bromlow County/Island: Montgomeryshire Country: Wales Street address: Gravels Source information: HO107/2498 Folio: 358 Page: 17 Registration district: Montgomery Sub-registration district: Montgomery Household schedule number: 60 John Rogers abt 1800 51 Worthen, Shropshire, England Head Mar Grocer/Pub Jemima Rogers abt 1808 43 Worthen, Shropshire, England Wife Mar Pub Lydia Rogers abt 1843 8 Worthen, Shropshire, England Daughter Henry Rogers abt 1848 3 Worthen, Shropshire, England Son Martha Rogers abt 1773 78 Worthen, Shropshire, England Mother Widow Sarah Rogers abt 1835 16 Worthen, Shropshire, England Niece Elizabeth Humphreys abt 1823 28 Worthen, Shropshire, England Servant Unmar Robert Humphreys abt 1793 58 Horsington, Shropshire, England Servant Widower Ag Lab regards Steve HAYWARD Orangeville,Ontario At 08:00 AM 5/24/2006 -0600, you wrote: >ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS-D Digest Volume 06 : Issue 186 > > #4 Humphreys of chirbury ["JOANNE NEWBERY" > <in2thepast@hotma] >X-Message: #4 >Date: Wed, 24 May 2006 09:43:36 +0000 >From: "JOANNE NEWBERY" <in2thepast@hotmail.com> >To: ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Humphreys of chirbury > >Hi >after a long time away and a breakthru recently i thought i would see if i >could find out anymore info re my Humphreys family > >This is what i have >and would love to here from anyone else with links > >1841 Census Stapeley Township of Middleton > >Robert Humphreys 45 farmer >Mary Humphreys 45 >Elizabeth 15 >Thomas 15 >William 10 >all born in county > >have heard from a relative off William, but if you are related to William >too the more the merrier :>) >also if anyone knows any info on any of the above names > >Thomas was my 2 x gt grandfather who moved to Breconshire in 1861 > >best wishes Joanne

    3. yours:" I have a page from Lewys Dwnn's Heraldic Visitations that puts my husband's ancestor in Bedson S. Moethig. I was told Moethig is actually Shrewsbury, but I've been unable to locate a Bedson. Could it be Bedston, and was that a parish?" Hello Theresa, Document of 1712 mentions Manor of Jay, Bedson and Beckjay, which puts Bedson nowhere near Shrewsbury. Document of 1707 mentions Bedson (Bedston). (This gem of info from a2a site). This puts it in the triangle that needs coverage from Shropshire, Herefordshire, Radnorshire. Bedstone is within the Purslow hundred. Maybe S.Meothig is the name of a holding or whatever. I have some things to look at that may mention it, and will write you off line if anything likely turns up. Heraldic Visitations are something at which I have never even looked. Jo,. Shropshire.

    2. Theresa Griffin
    3. Hello, I'm new to the list. I'm working on my husband's Griffin line who are reported by Lewys Dwnn as being named Pengruffwnd. I have never seen this name before or after the 1613 heraldic visitation, but Dwnn listed them as originally having come from Bedson (?) in Shrewsbury. In 1613 Syr Richart Pengriffin (as he signed his name) was a Parson at Walton West, Rhos Hundred, Pembrokeshire. If anyone has even seen this name, I would appreciate an email. Different family historians have written the name as Pengruffydd, Pengruffudd, Griffith (in England) and Griffin (in America). Thank you for any help you can offer. Theresa Griffin
