Hi Bary Your friend might have to take into consideration that there was only one child born to this family, then again there are a number of other Richard & Hannah/Ann Parker families scattered around England during that time frame on the IGI, which if the family moved (Staffordshire for example), could belong. The census data 1841-51 etc. will be the only way of tackling this problem, though perhaps even that data could be a little too late in time. Even so, way to go perhaps! Cheers Graham Melbourne

Hi Margaret I concur with Margaret Sheridan's comments, however as you live in Australia you might consider going along to your nearest LDS family history library (telephone book should show you where they are) where you can order in for viewing microfilms of the original parish registers and/or Bishops transcripts. Sometimes (or is it often?) when you can't locate a particular birth or baptism you have to resort to checking out other parishes close by and at $5 (Oz dollars) per microfilm that's fairly good value. Many of the films you might want are already stored within the Sydney repository and once you have them in your hands for viewing you have four weeks time to look at them (though in some circumstances you can book them longer for $2 extra). They then go back to Sydney for the next person to order. If the film has not been ordered before from Australia or New Zealand then it will have to come from Salt Lake City, which means a wait of about six to eight weeks or even more. But if the film is already in the Sydney repository you could get it within a week to10 days as LDS have instituted a new emailing process for orders from their local FH libraries. Over the past few months I have heard several whispers that LDS plans to digitize all of these films so that they will, eventually, be made available on the internet, possibly through Ancestry.com. That will be a sight to see, though I still find it somewhat of a puzzle as many of these parish records are really BIG, and some of the older ones - especially 17th & 18th century - are faded, damaged, badly written so one wonders how one can digitize those pages? Anyway, that's probably a number of years away and if you are as keen as I am, one can't wait, hence whiling away the hours trawling through microfilms. Email me off list if you need any more info. Hi List, Graham said; "..... Over the past few months I have heard several whispers that LDS plans to digitize all of these films so that they will, eventually, be made available on the internet, possibly through Ancestry.com....." In the long term, there will hopefully be another option available for UK based researchers to view Shropshire Parish records. I understand that Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury intend to distribute copies of the local Parish record fiche to various branch libraries throughout Shropshire. That would also make lookups for researchers overseas more feasible for more volunteers. The last time I enquired, no time scale had been agreed for the plan which is dependent on financial funding. Hi List, Could someplease advise me how to search the parish records or bishops transcripts in Bridgnorth. Having trouble finding a birth. TIA Margaret Boots in OZ
Hi there, Bridgnorth is made of several Parishes. Do you know which Parish ? If not you have to unfortunatley search them all. If the birth is pre 1837 it may be possible to find the baptism on the IGI Mormon website or if more recent my favourite method is the Freebmd site. Or if you have a rough idea of date search the bmd registers on ancestry.com Hope that helps Kindest Regards Margaret From: mboots@iinet.net.au To: ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-SHROP] Re: ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS-D Digest V06 #193 Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2006 06:25:07 +0800 Hi List, Could someplease advise me how to search the parish records or bishops transcripts in Bridgnorth. At 05:58 AM 31/05/2006, you wrote: >Could SkS help me with this. Again, Janice, christenings after 13 years of birth were not all that unusual. And often when the parish priest "caught up with them" children were christened on the same day regardless of their age, probably being four or five years or more between them, which sad to say makes it very difficult to pin down their birth year. Adults were often christened prior to their marriage if there was no record of them being christened as a child. Sometimes a wife/mother would be christened at the same time as her first child. No hard and fast rules here, lots would depend upon the family's circumstances, whether they were or not favourable to church attendance, or whether they were a distance away from the parish church so as not to bother, or again, whether they moved about looking for work. Lots of things to take into consideration. Good luck in your search Graham Melbourne Oz

If the children were twins, it would normally be mentioned in the transcripts or the original parish registers and they would indeed generally (but not always) have a seperate number on the page. Very occasionally they were put in the same page number as for instance Mary and John twins of Joseph & Martha Higgins, etc. But this was unusual, most clerics preferring to give different numberings to the children, unless this was for recordings in the 1600s and 1700s when regs/transcripts were poorly written up. As for a gentleman with tools, I have not a clue. Chers Graham
Hi, I'm hoping someone may be prepared to look up, copy & then email me the death notice and/or obituary from the local newspaper for Mrs Phyllis WARD, who was born on 20 November 1898 and was the widow of Claude George Cecil WARD. Claude Ward was a local man and with his wife, was living at Oakengates prior to his death in 1978. Their only child, Peter Edward Ward was living at Coventry in 1982. In the 1901 census, Claude was living with his parents Thomas(b.1865, at St. Georges) and Harriet (b.1869/70, at Priors Lee) WARD and his older siblings, Winifred C. age 7 and Frank T.C. age 5 - if anyone is interested in this family, it would be good to hear from them. Thanks in anticipation, Barry Tasmania, Australia.

Hi there, From past experience (of Parish records) each child is entered in the register seperateley. Sometimes children were'nt christened staright away. I recently spotted an entry where a man was 33 before he was christened. There was no excuse really, he and his family had lived in the parish all their lives ( within 2 minutes walk of the church !)
