New to this list and needing some help tracing the KNOTT family. In the 1881 Census I have a Henry KNOTT, 42, born Cleobury Mortimer, Shrophshire, a Cooper. His wife, Jane, 35 born Deerhurst, Gloucester. Children, Henry aged 10, also b. Deerhurst, Gloucester John, 7, b. RossHereford William, 3 b. Hales Owen, Worcester. I can find the family again in the 1901 Census, minus John & William, but with some new children, Annie 19, b. Salop Cleo Mortimer, Thomas 16, b. Shropshire, Ludlow. There is also a grandaughter Lilian PRICE, 8, born Shropshire Ludlow on the 1901 Census. I was particulary interested in William who I can only find in 1881. I believe his father was Henry Mayne Knott, which it states on William's marriage certificate. William married in 1909 Gloucester (William Charles on certificate). I am also interested to know if all these places of birth are close in proximity or have this family travelled around a bit. Hoping someone can help - thanks, Sharon
Hello Sharon at bigpond, In case this useful, for identification or elimination: 1870 directory, Thomas M. Knott, cooper, Cleobury Mortimer. 1863 directory, R. Knott, cooper, Cleobury Mortimer. 1844: Knott Richard, cooper, Cleobury Mortimer. also in 1844 another cooper, Dovey Samuel, same town. As an aside, in 1844 the Royal Mail Ludlow to Birmingham, and vice versa, called every day at Cleobury, at 7.30 am or 5.30 pm, daily, calling at the "Talbot". I have other Shropshire directories if any further interest. Some have a trades sention others only places so bit laborious to go through. Jo. Shropshire.
Hi! I think you'll find that "Prus Green" is actually PREES GREEN! (I know, I know, it would be lovely if all transcibers were local!! :o)) Saira Oswestry, Shropshire www.hornerscorner.co.uk
Hi John Should be Prees Green which I suspect is Prees, not Wem. John
Looking for relatives of Richard Evans born 1883 in Woolstaton. Shropshire. sisters Emily 1888. Eliza 1882.Emilywas born in Baschurch Shrop Their parents were George Evans & Mary ( Medlicott) Many thanks for any and all assistance.
Hi, I am a new lister to this site. I am looking for "lost" rellies who made a wrong turn (just kidding) and ended up in Shropshire. I am not familiar with Shropshire (Salop?), since most of my rellies originated from Cheshire. I have a Samuel FARRALL, born 1850 in Barnton, Cheshire, married to Ellen WARBURTON, born 1845 in Shocklach, Cheshire. The had three sons: - Walter, born 1870 in Bursley, Cheshire. He was wounded in the Boar War and was in a London hospital in the 1901 census - Ernest, born Lacon, Shropshire 1879 (no further information) - William Henry FARRALL, born 1884 in Prus Green Wem, Shropshire (sorry, that goofy name was taken from the census and I have NO idea what it means or if it is real). William Henry FARRALL married Mary Ann FERRINGTON in 1908 in Wellington Sal (?), Shropshire. Mary Ann FERRINGTON was born in Waters Upton, Shropshire in 1885. She was the daughter of Richard FERRINGTON, born Moreton Corbet (?), Shropshire 1845. He died and his wife Raphel (maiden name CHIDLOW) married William EVANS and had addition children. Any Ideas?? Thanks for hearing me out. Kind regards, John Farrall Burke, Virginia USA
Thanks Graham. I'll work my way through these and see what I find. thanks for your time Regards. List cross-posting, do not think it has been on yet. For those of us in the tricky triangle of RAD/Herefordshire/Shropshire, worth trying this for a quick archives search, rather than separate listed archives. Do not know if it covers all rootweb lists yet, but great for Radnorshire. Only problem is so many of us change our ISP and email addresses. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search Jo.

Looks like Dropsy. Was Dropsy a disease in 1851??? I've heard of fish having Dropsy LOL. Jaquie
The following website will provide most medical answers for you.. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wakefield/medical.html The definitions it gives for Dropsy are: Dropsy - Oedema (swelling), often caused by kidney or heart disease. Dropsy would be called congestive heart failure today. It is an accumulation of fluid around the heart, for a variety of complex reasons, and one treatment is administration of digitalis (foxglove leaves). Dropsy of the Brain - Encephalitis Cheers Fred ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jaquie Cook" <jaquie.cook@btinternet.com> To: <ENG-SHROPSHIRE-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 22, 2006 12:22 PM Subject: [ENG-SHROP] Cause of death > Looks like Dropsy. This is my first visit to Shropshire and I wonder if anyone who has access to baptismal records for All Saints Clive would be so kind as to lookup the Poole family in particular John Poole born 1819/20 M.I. records would also be useful but perhaps that would be asking too much . Many thanks Derek Poole
