Hi List. I am new to your site so hope you can help me My son in law is called Mark Kynaston he wants me to help him look for his Granfarther. He is Called Thomas Kynaston was born about 1920 was born in ( Wem ) Shropshire. Hope you can help me with this thanks DOT
Hello, I did find Richard and John Sands living in the US. In 1911 when immigrating, John states he had been in the US from 1908-1911. Did he go home because his father was sick? They do list their nearest relative as Mr. Sands, 16 NewBridge Rd, Ironbridge Salop. John was b. August 7, 1892 Hadnet, Shropshire and Richard August 3, 1887, Market Drayton? Cheryl
Hi List I wonder if someone can come up with a bright idea for me! Richard SANDS was born in Prees in 1854 and married Sarah Ann MAYER Q2 1886 - she came from Silverdale, STS. He appears with his family in subsequent censuses, in 1901 being at Fauls, Prees RG13/2554/54/2 where he is a Carter (general), own account. Richard and Sarah had four sons and three daughters, one of whom died as a baby. The two elder sons John Thomas and Richard emigrated to the USA before WW1. The third, Harry, served in the 4th Rifle Brigade. The youngest, Allen, was a boy in the Royal Navy at the outbreak; he was at the Battle of the Falklands in December 1914. In October 1916 he "ran" in Montreal, and four weeks later enlisted in the Canadian army under a false name. He became a gunner in the Canadian Field Artillery and was killed at the Second Battle of Passchendaele in October 1917 aged 19. The CWGC describes him as "Son of Sarah Ann Sands, of 55 Church Hill, Ironbridge, Salop, England". The Voters List shows that Harry lived there with his mother after the war until her death in 1928; he moved when he married in 1929 and his sister Gertrude lived there until 1933, so I know that I have the right family. My problem is that I cannot find a death registered for Richard (senior). I have searched on line, and have also waded through the GRO index on microfiche. It would appear likely that he died before 1917 although there could be some other reason for him not being named as next of kin on the CWGC Debt of Honour Register. I have no idea why Sarah moved to Ironbridge as there seems to be no prior connection with that part of the county. The possibilities would appear to be Death not registered Death registered but not indexed Death occurred outside UK He would have been too old for military service. Did he also emigrate to the USA with JT and Richard junior and leave his wife and other children behind? I very much doubt this because I have had contact John Thomas' grandson and he would surely have mentioned that. Any suggestions gratefully received! TIA John (in Herefordshire where the sun is finally trying to beak through).
Hello Looks like the IGI been updated since you last searched. C017442 for Much Wenlock gives a christening for Thomas Roper, mother Issabella (so spelt), no mention of the dad. 1822. Jo. Tropical Shropshire
Hello all I have returned to the list after quiet sometime. I am still after the same names with not much difference from when I left. :o( I am looking for a christening entry for either, Caroline Roper b: 1821 Much Wenlock or her brother Thomas ROPER b: 1822 Much Wenlock. I am looking specifically for any reference of their father. Isabella ROPER (widow) their mother married into my SKETT/SKITT line 16 September 1823, Much Wenlock. I found out yesterday that Isabella is listed on the 1851 cens as being from Scotland, I am hoping that her first husband was from Shropshire. Any nudge in the right direction would be appreciated, Brynda Brynda Ashton-Jones London, Ontario Canada
I am back from my holiday to continue research into the following:- Bisgrove -Ireland, London, Somerset Foxall- Belguim, -Hampshire Costar, Costard -Oxfordshire, Hampshire Mitchell - Northumberland Slade- Berkshire, Hampshire Alan J Foxall
Hi Thanks for the valuable information re my birth cert query and the fact that it was in the next qtr-hopefully. To this end I have sent for the certificate already and will let you all know when it comes if it is what I expected. Regards Barry
Fair point. I had thought of that but wondered if it was too big a gap to be possible. I guess that it is the only solution. Hi Barry, The short answer is Yes. You have 6 weeks to register a birth & if the parents waited until January it would appear in the Mar Qtr of the following year. Hi there, Can anyone help with this puzzle ? William J Beddoe was born in Highley about 1882. William married Mary Elizabeth Bason of Alveley in 1912 (registered Cleobury Mortimer) By the time of the 1901 census William was working as a Hewer at the Colliery. I am interested to find out where they lived and if they had any children ? Does anyone have access to the Highley Parish Church Registers and could possibly look up baptisms ? Another part of the puzzle is there is a death of a William J Beddoe aged 51 registered at Kidderminster in 1933. ( a perfect match !) So could some kind soul possibley have a look at Highley burial register or have a wander around the churchyard for any clues ? Any help or advice would be much appreciated Kindest Regards Margaret
I have a feeling that recently someone posted the name MULLINER at Worfield. Unfortunately I was unable to reply at that time and apparently I have accidentally deleted the message. My Great Grandmother was CATHERINE MULLINER aka KITTY born in 1833. If the person posting the message is still on this list I would be glad to hear from them. Margaret Felthouse, Western Australia.

If 1851 (HO107/1995/31/1) the entries for the Wem Union Workshouse are difficult to make out but they are definitely _not_ Rowley. Ancestry has them transcribed as "William Nail Kendell, born about 1793 in County Westmeath, Ireland" (That is genuinely County Westmeath and not the usual mix up between Westmeath and Wem :-) ) and his wife "Mary Rendlinn, born about 1795 in Caernarvonshire, Wales" Ian
Looking for a connection on a Anne Vaughan and a John Jones They had a daughter Hannah born 1824 in Treflach
Hello List, Could SKS lookup the Staff of this workhouse in the 1851. I have a note indicating that staff included a Mr. & Mrs. ROWLEY. My ggF Andrew ROWLEY is the Workhouse Master in 1882 at the age of 62, but I have him in 1851 as a teacher at the Chetwyn School. So, I'd like to have details on the ROWLEYs at Wem Workhouse in 1851. TIA Mike M. Elliot-Jones
