BUT I do have some directories at home (as other's do) for Shropshire, which feature pubs, taverns, etc., so if you can let us know who and what you are looking for we might be able to help. After all, it's only a hop-step-and-jump from there to Whitchurch! Folk moved around quite a lot in those days. Cheers Graham

Hello Chris, There was a good site on line some years back, and expanding its list of pubs, but then it went out of cyberspace. The site owner/s had contacted me for permission to use a list I was generating for my own amusement, of Pubs and Taverns in Shropshire, and that was fine my me. If you go into the Shropshire-Plus-L archives, type in for search terms "establishments Shropshire" and for 2002, maybe other years, a number of my lists come up. Somewhere I may have my database or spreadsheet, of entries (for Windows not excel), but when it got to well over a thousand entries, I lost interest. Also before then had lost some of the notes I had installed regarding bits of info as to when places closed or changed use and not backed that up. Discouraging. When time allows, will search through a stack of floppies and see if it still exists here, but meanwhile the above archives search will bring some up. Jo.
Hi again, I should have mentioned that Alice may have come from Shropshire as the freebmd shows 2 or 3 from there and is not far from from Wrexham. My main concern is to establish THOMAS's father and occupation. Terry.
Hi all, I am looking for a connection to ALICE GRINDLEY who married THOMAS MATTHIAS in the Wrexham area, maybe BRYMBO or near, in 1911. If you have anything at all, please contact me, Thanks, terry.
>>After all, it's only a hop-step-and-jump from there to Whitchurch! Folk moved around quite a lot in those days. Cheers Graham<< dont you just love it when christenings/baptisms are in different places for the same family! in the time frame of this particular email reference, people had to fit in with their possibly 1 day off from work and where the "circuit" minister was going to be. the thought of trekking a distance in a cart maybe borrowed from a neighbour or walking a distance with a baby to be christened is a scarey thought! Thanks to you all fr the pubs info; as i said, the drinks are on me so meet you all there! cheers Chris
Can anybody tell me which site it is you can request any info on a particular pub? i remember only its some kind of register. many thanks Chris
Hi I'm looking for any info on Richard ANKERS born I think around 1807 to 1810 in Whitchurch, I know he died in York in 1886 but I don't know much about his early life. His parents were probably John & Martha but I'm not sure. Has anyone got any info please. Mike Thorpe

Some of the modern ones for Shrewsbury end in UD. Cheers Graham

A 1902 birth certificate from the GRO gives the place of birth as above, District Atcham, Sub-district of Saint Chad Shrewsbury. I know Frankwell is north of Shrewsbury, right across the Severn, but what's "U.D"? Thank you, Alejandro Milberg Boston, Mass.

Hello Anne in Aurora IL An 1870 directory gives the following, which I have shortened somewhat. St. Michael's Church Shrewsbury, building in Doric style. Suburb of Castle Foregate. Consecrated 1830, enlarged 1855, sittings for about 1100 people. Living is a vicarage yearly value £135. More up to date is: http://www.sacbr.org.uk/S'y%20Michael/Shrewsbury,%20St%20Michael.htm saying closed in 1976 and bells removed, and a good picture. Jo in Shropshire UK. !

I shouldn't get upset about it. After all it only means. "A figure of speech, two ideas are combined to form a phrase or epithet. ie: cruel/kindness. I think a buckle indidcates, Victorious fidelity in authority. Cheers Jen in oz.
