Hi Catherine Apologies for the late reply. Thanks for this. I do already have a note of all these individuals but I'm afraid I don't have much to add. There is a baptism of a Francis Windsor at Whittington in 1711, father Richard of Berghill, no mention of the mother's name. A Richard of Kenwick Park (not too far away) also had children John (1700), Abigail (1705) and Isabel (died 1710, Berghill). The only marriages of a Richard around this time that I've noted are to: Elizabeth Banks, widow of Bettisfield, 13 Jun 1698, Hanmer, by licence, and Margaret Gad (?) 30 Apr 1696 at Prees. Difficult to say if either of these are the right one without doing a lot of digging around. Sorry I couldn't give you any useful leads. Dear Theresa Many apologies for replying to your email so late but there have been all sorts of family goings-on over the last few weeks and I havent had the chance to check email regularly. Ive had a look through my records for your family especially the marriage of John Windsor to Ann Wenlock. I know this marriage is on the LDS Web site (submitted unsourced) and Ive seen it repeated on various family trees on the Internet but I have never come across this marriage as Ive gone through transcripts and microfilms of Ellesmere PRs. There is a marriage of Benjamin Windsor to Ann Wenlock on 1 Nov 1784 at Ellesmere, however. Benjamin and Ann had a daughter Elizabeth christened on 5 June 1785 at Ellesmere. I havent found any Elizabeths born in 1788. There is a Benjamin born in 1757 to William and Ann, christened at Ellesmere; as Benjamin was not a common name amongst the Shropshire Windsors, this is likely to be Elizabeths father. Im almost sure I have extracted the majority of mentions of Windsors in the north west Shropshire area (and other areas but I focus on this area first) PRs up to the mid 1800s, where theyre legible or I havent gone momentarily cross-eyed! I havent looked at the Bishops Transcripts yet, though, and these may contain other information. Also, I havent found some entries that I would have expected to be there, including some of my ancestors, which is really annoying. So there are undoubtedly bmds existing somewhere that I havent got in my records. I dont know if you have a subscription to Ancestry but I have come across other people researching these Windsors and the Birch family. If you want me to have another look at these for you let me know. There is also a pedigree file on LDS going back to a Ralph Winsor of Lilleshall but not sure how accurate this is. There seems to be some assumptions made. Im not sure if this has been of any help, probably the opposite! Do check anything that Ive said yourself as I would hate to send anyone off in the wrong direction through error. Let me know if there is anything else I can do. If anyone else is researching WINDSORS I'd be happy to help with queries. Most entries have been checked by me in parish register transcripts so should be reliable. I'm doing the same for LINLEYS but haven't yet come across anyone else on the list researching these. Jill REMEMBER - The question you are asking may have already been answered. Author: ELLinSpain Surnames: Classification: lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sal.general/6571.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: hello found The Kenricks had originally hailed from Woore in Shropshire, where they owned property and maintained a house, Woore Manor. They also possessed land in North Wales. Before bidding them farewell, there is one last tale concerning them that may explain why young Andrew was so anxious to leave the ancestral lands and set up home in Chester instead. One of their other properies in the village, Woore House- now a farmhouse- was the scene of a grim tragedy, for, at an unrecorded point in the recent past, one of the daughters of the house was murdered by her brother, in pursuit of the money she possessed. It was said by the villagers that the place was afterwards haunted by poor Miss Kenrick's ghost and that a portion of the cellar had been closed off immediately after the event and never re-opened. It was said that in the cellar was a table with a bottle upon it, so it may perhaps be inferred that the murder took place with poison and that the body was hidden here... In the early 19th century, the house passed to the Farmer family, one of whom became a noted Royal Navy captain- Horatio Nelson served as a midshipman under him. It then, in the 1870s, passed on to the Boydells, under whom the estate was split up and in the 1920s the mansion, described in a Cheshire Sheaf of the day as a 'quaint, old, ivy-covered, gabled house" became the home of the noted family of veterinary surgeons, the Storrars, who continue in that noble profession in Chester to this day from http://www.bwpics.co.uk/newgate.html Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
