I've searched for the birth of a John Ruscoe who married in Whitchurch in 1738 and at this time he has settled in Wem near Edstaston in Salop. I've found some Ruscoe's in those area's, but each time I find the birth of a John around the correct time, 1710-1717 possibley, they all seem to die in infancy or early childhood. Any direction you could point me in would be really appreciated. Regards, Jan

    3. Hello John The Family History Society of Cheshire has published a microfiche listing of Malpas marriages 1561 to 1837. There is no marriage for a John Sands listed there, though there are two female Sands marriages - Eliz. in 1713, who married John Taylor of Whitchurch; and Hester of Cholmondeley who married John Hough of Bickerton in 1744. I have done a listing of marriages in Marbury (from the PR, not yet checked against the BTs) and I cannot find a John Sands getting married there in the early 1700s. The Bertram Merrell Index of Cheshire marriages published on CD by the FHS Cheshire has a Hugh Sands (possibly the same man?) getting married 3 times in Shocklach - in 1683 to Margaret Dt Dudley; in 1690 to Mary Whitley; and on 2 Aug 1700 to Margaret Edwards. There are very few Sands marriages on this CD, but the index does have significant gaps in it. It was compiled mostly from BTs, which tend to have more gaps in them than PRs. I have had huge trouble with my Purcell ancestors who hopped back and forward between Whitchurch and Malpas and Marbury. 2. John Sands
    3. Hello Listers Its time for my annual appeal for help. For the past 30 years I have been looking for a baptism for my 4xGGrandfather John Sands. He was married at ELLESMERE, SAL, 6 June 1730 and was buried at PREES, SAL, 26 July 1798 "age 92". I suspect that he was the son of John SANDS and Margaret who had 8 children baptised at WHITCHURCH, SAL, from 1708 onwards. I can't find a marriage for John and Margaret and if my suspicion is correct, both marriage and baptism could have taken place in Margaret's home parish. As Whitchurch straddles the SAL / CHS border this could well be in CHS. I would love to hear from anyone who could help, or who is interested in the SANDS family. Thanks in anticipation! 3. Margaret, The notation regarding the Pace-Squire folk is in answer to one of my queries to the group. I do not know him personally. I suggest you visit his web page at http://www.pacefamilyhistory.info/pitt.htm where you will find contact details for him and ask your question directly to him. He may be able to help. Regards Paul Hi Paul Just read your mail and see at the bottom is a mention of a Gordon Pace and his interest in coal mining in the Staffs area. I have a missing man Morgan connolley .He was a coal miner in one of the Cannock mines in 1871 but no-one can find him after that date. not even his death. I just wondered if your friend Gordon Pace? had an index of men working in the mines in his area of the USA that came from Staffs. It's just an outside chance but may be worth while. regards Margaret
