Hello Alejandro As always, I suppose the correct spelling is the way it is written at the time. The spelling used by the Ordnance Survey will certainly be the modern spelling. The others will just be the spelling used at some earlier time. Some places can obviously be as bad as some names when it comes to spelling. I've found the 1891 and 1901 census returns for him. One indicates he was born in Belenton, Salop. The other indicates he was born in Clairy, Salop. I can't find either on current maps but I believe Belenton could possibly be a corruption of Wellington. Any ideas how I may be able to pursue this? Hello Mike, I have a family newspaper cutting, the obituary (1909) for Henrys daughter where it says- Thus is the last link broken of the old Vigor's family who came to Neath Abbey Ironworks eighty years ago as engineers. They came from Beltin in Shropshire, and the mother of the deceased lady married the late Mr. Henry Vigors. I came across a Sivannus Vigors on the National Burial Index today, he died in Shenstone Staffordshire 06.02.1826. Sounds as though the newspaper cutting is a miss print. Hope I've sent this reply the correct way. Hello Alejandro The Gazetteer of Streets, Roads and Place Names in Shropshire lists:- The Farm, Kinnerley Farm Hall, south of Kinnerley You have obviously found the second one. The first one may well have been in the village itself but it is not showing up on any maps I have access to. The only one which might sort the problem out is the Tithe Apportionment Map with its Schedule because each property and every field are listed and plotted. They date from around the late 1830's. You could also consider the possibility that one or both of then left a will which might help. A document in A2A (ref. 867/284, 7 June 1737) mentions Margaret Thornes of Farm, Kinnerley. There is also a Thomas Thornes of the Farm, Kinnerley, sworn in as burgess of Shrewsbury in 1721. Where is Farm or Farme? There is a Farm Hall 1 km south of Kinnerley (Get-a-map), would that be it? Hello Cheryl I am curious where you have obtained the place of birth from. As far as I am aware there is no place called Bilston in Shropshire - the nearest being in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire although there is another in Scotland. Further a search for Beltin fails to find one anywhere in the UK. There are several places called Belton in England including one a mile south west of Whitchurch, Shropshire but as far as I can see it is probably just a farm rather than 'place'. G'day Listers. Loking for anyone who is researching the name LAINTOLL or variations [1800-1900]in Shropshire, would they please contact me. Harvey, In Adelaide, Sth. Australia.
My first list here. I am researching the VIGORS branch of my family. My Gr gr grandfather HENRY VIGORS was born in Bilston/Beltin? Shropshire in 1768. His brothers and sisters were: Mary, Thomas, Silvanus, Sarah, Martha, William, Richard, John and George. He left Shropshire around 1810 approx and moved to Neath South Wales to Neath Abbey Ironworks, he died 13.02.1830 aged 62 at Cadoxton Neath. Staffordshire archive services were unable to trace anything about HENRYS baptism or parentage, I'm really stuck! Does anyone have any research about the VIGORS family's in Shropshire? Any help appreciated. Thanks Cheryl.
