Hello All I've just subscribed to the List and am seeking information on the Rev Geo Owen Browne who was vicar of St. Barnabus Church, Hengoed, Oswestry. He died in Oswestry in 1929 aged 80 and I would like to know if he was buried there and if anyone has a photo of him. Anything at all really. I live in Flint, Flintshire and the Parish Church is celebrating its 160th anniversary on December 5th and they have asked me, being a member of the Flint Local History Society, to find out who were the first people baptised, married and buried in this church on that day for inclusion in next month's parish magazine and George Owen Browne was one of five that were baptised. His father was the Rev Thomas Birch Llewelyn Browne, rector of Flint from 1840-1850, who died in Bodfary, Flintshire in 1891 aged 89. For some reason they don't have a Crocksford Directory in the local record office only a Clergy List for 1898. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Peter

Hello I have had consistent problems with accessing the gateway message board and have virtually given up on it trying to reply to the messages that come through on the Shropshire list as gateway. Therefore I usually ignore every one that comes through as gateway. DELETE! However, this particular one as listed below gives me the opinion that I can help more than most, so if others who can access the gateway message board would like to assist, okay. Could you pass on the following message to gateway? Duddleston parish registers. Baptisms: 15 Sep 1799 Francis s/o John & Mary Davies. There are other children baptised to this couple, so if the person enquiring has my email address we can chat off-line. Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz ([email protected])

Hi all I am commencing to put onto the will transcriptions website a number of wills I transcribed some years back, most of these are for Flintshire and Denbighshire, Montgomeryshire and Shropshire. Here is a sample. 1812 John JONES of Coed y Cra parish of Northop county of Flint farmer..... give real stock goods and chattels unto the use of my beloved wife Mary Jones.... also to my son John Jones 20 pounds out of my stock to be paid to him by my beloved wife Mary Jones.... for the execution of his business.... also to my son Daniel Jones ten pounds to be paid to him out of my stock.... towards putting him an apprentice.... and after the decease of my wife Mary Jones remainder of my stock to be equally divided to all my children.... app my beloved wife Mary Jones Executrix. X John Jones 12 Aug 1812. Under 200 pounds. Most of these are abbreviated with lots of legal words taken out. Hope some of you may find wills to your advantage at http://www.willtranscriptions.co.uk/ Don't think Peter had any for Flint or Denbigh before I commenced, and I have quite a number to add which will take me weeks, if not months. Hello Patricia If you obtain the Birth Certificate for Sarah Harriott PALMER in Dec 1857 it will provide you with her mother's maiden name. You will then be able to search for the Marriage between Joseph PALMER and Eliza ...?... FreeBMD at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com shows one ( vaguely ) possible marriage at West Bromwich in Jul/Aug/Sep 1858 but you need the maiden name of the bride to establish if that is the correct one. Be aware that PADMORE may also be found as PODMORE in Shropshire. Hi All This is my first posting to the Shropshire list so just wondering if the following families are being researched by other members. I am helping a colleague with the following:- All from the Wellington & Hadley areas SARAH HARRIOTT PALMER born Dec 1857 married JAMES PADMORE around 1878 Sarah's parents were JOSEPH & ELIZA PALMER - cannot find a marriage for these two, would have been perhaps around 1858 or before. I found them in the 1861 census with Sarah age 3 but cannot find them in 1851 and in 1841 found Joseph with his parents GEORGE & SARAH PALMER, George was born around 1792 and in this census there is an Ann age 82 living with them which would possibly be George's mother. Can somebody point me in the direction of Parish registers as I would like to find the marriage of George and possibly his parents. Regards Patricia

Has anyone come across a book entitled 'Shropshire Folk-Lore; A Sheaf of Gleanings' edited by Charlotte Burne from the collections of Georgina Frederica Jackson 1883. I have tried the online Shropshire Library catalogue and the Shropshire Archives online but nothing comes up. I would be grateful for any information. Ann
Hello Linda The baptism register for St Alkmund's, Whitchurch has the following entry: 5 July 1703 Martha, bastard daughter of John SANDS and Mary LEA of Whitchurch. This entry is omitted from the IGI but certainly exists (I have seen the original register). I believe that John SANDS might be the father of my 4Xgreat grandfather John SANDS, born c 1706, married Ellesmere 1730, buried Prees 1798 "age 92", for whose baptism I have been searching unsuccessfully for over 30 years. Can you cast any light on Mary LEA please? Regards John Sands -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. We are a community of 5.5 million users fighting spam.
