I'd found the 1851. I did find an 1841 for Harriett Griffiths in the Croydon Barracks so I'm guessing George was stationed somewhere. I can't locate the 1861 you mentioned. On his marriage certificate to Mary Beach, he lists his father as Edward. I cannot find a marriage certificate either for Harriett Hooker. I got that information on a marriage certificate for one of his children. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: tecwynsavage Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sal.general/6601/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Robert Illingworth married Mary Ada German (nee Green) in Birkenhead in 1908. Mary Ada was born in Whitchurch in 1873, married John Nicholson German in 1900 and was widowed in 1904. Have located a death of a Robert Illingworth in 1929 in Whitchurch and a death of an Ada Illingworth in Rhyl, North Wales in 1949. I have searched the Rhyl Municipal Cemetery but cannot find a grave for any Illingworth. My query is this: were Robert and Mary Ada buried together in Whitchurch? I haven't contacted the Shropshire authorities yet but any information on these families would be most welcome. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [ENG-SHROP] Clun Area - Church Records
    2. T Wood
    3. Are there any research experts for the area around Clun on the list? I am trying to find christenings for John Davies born 1790/91 and Thomas Davies born 1792/3. I am trying to establish that they were brothers and, if so, get some lead as to who their parents were. Thomas was my 3x-gr grandfather and married Susannah Howard at Clun in 1817 and their first child William was christened at Bettws y Crwyn later that same year. They relocated to Bilston Staffordshire shortly thereafter where Thomas was a Forge Laborer. I believe John may have married Mary Cadwallader at Clun in 1818. Based on census records, their oldest child that I am aware of was born in Clun in 1821/22 but I have not been able to locate a christening record for him. By the time their son John was born in 1826 the family had also relocated to Bilston Staffordshire where John was a Forge Laborer. >From this little bit of information I have on their early life, I do not know precisely where they were born only that it was in the general vicinity of Clun. The only records that I have been able to check were what are available for the area on the LDS website which includes Clun, Bettws, Llanfair-Warterdine and Mainstone. What I would like to know is what other churches were in that area in the late 1700’s. I think there was a church at Newcastle on Clun at that time but the LDS does not have any records. 3. Hi Linda Madeley Wood is part of Madeley, and Broseley Wood is part of Broseley. As the names suggest, they are the wooded areas on the north and south banks of the Severn Gorge respectively. At http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Madeley/Madeley.shtml you will find a photo of the workhouse built at Brockholes in 1796-7. It was replaced by a larger building in 1868 and converted into houses. It is now known as 12 - 14 Belmont Road, Ironbridge. If you put that address into Google Maps you will find exactly where Brockholes is, although the name no longer appears on maps. 3. Hi Listers, Wonder if anyone out there can help me with a little information to point me in the right direction. i have recently found that my great great great Aunt was sentenced to life at Shrewsbury Assizes in 1861(probably March) for the crime of Murder (drowning a 9 month old child). The sentence was commuted to 20 years PS and she was released from Knaphill Prison in 1873 where she was incarcerated with Constance Kent as an historical aside. I want to find out if the child was hers and more details of the crime and am not sure where to look. I have some details of the plea for clemency and petitions for her release from the National Archives but that gives little away about the actual crime and circumstances. Would there be records of the trial? Which would be best newspaper to see if there are any reports? And on the off chance she's in anyone else's list her name is Elizabeth Griffin b. c1823 Hints Staffordshire. Fingers cross, all help and advice greatly rec'd!! Many thanks Nick

    1. [ENG-SHROP] Pentreheylin Hall - two of them?? PAYNE family
    2. I'm looking into the PAYNE family of Pentreheylin and found a Pentreheylin Hall about 1.8 km south of Maesbrook in Kinnerley parish. But then I found another Pentreheylin Hall at almost the exact latitude but about 5 km west (and about 1 km west of Llandysilio (all of this on the Ordnance Survey's Get-a-map). Both are very close to the Vyrnwy river. To complicate things further, there's another Pentreheyling (with final "g") which is the place that comes up if you use the Get-a-map search function; it is that Shropshire locality where you need to cross into Wales to reach any other place in England (from Wikipedia). Now I wonder if there are any other Pentreheylin Halls, which one was the Payne's and which one belonged to the old Heylin family. Any information would be highly appreciated.
