    1. Re: [ENG-SHROP] Jane EBREY, Prees or Hodnet - seeking parents
    2. Michael J Hulme
    3. Hello Barbara It would appear that the first thing you need to do is check the Hodnet baptism register to establish whether the earlier research is correct or not. I presume you live in the US in which case you should be able to view the Hodnet register at your local Mormon Family History Library which should be able to order the baptisms 1813-1849 amongst others. When you look through the images of the register you should keep a very open mind about spelling of the surname but I am not optimistic because a search on the IGI using the Batch No C008732 for the Hodnet baptisms 1813-1849 for a child Jane with father Thomas produced twelve results, none of which has a surname anything like EBREY or a mother named Ann(e). I found similar results for Prees using the Batch No C035082 which covers baptisms 1805-1868. I have also checked both parishes using the Batch No with the child's forename (Jane) and the mother's forename (Ann) without a father's name but this didn't produce anything which jumped out as a possible answer. These problems could be caused by a number of reasons, two of which are Non-Conformist religion or illegitimacy and of course there is always the possibility that someone forgot to write the entry in the book two hundred years ago. I am trying to confirm the parents of Jane EBREY, my second great grandmother. There is no IGI record for her birth that I can see, either for Hodnet or Prees. FreeBMD does not have a Jane Ebrey b. in Hodnet or Prees. She is not in a census with her parents.   The family researcher recorded that her parents were listed as Thomas Ebrey and Anne. I can not find a record for their marriage.   In 1861 Jane Ebrey, age 22, was keeping house for her uncle Robert Ebrey and his sons Henry and Frederick, all butchers, living in Prees. I believe this Thomas Ebrey is the same man listed under Butchers in the 1828-1829 Pigot & Co.’s Commercial Directory as Thomas Aberey & Sons, Prees.   In June 1866 in Wem, Jane Ebrey married Benjamin Booth, a carpenter, b. in Hodnet, son of Joseph C. 2. More chasing of my BILLINGTON connections. In the 1841 census an Ann BILLINGTON is with an Edward ACTON and his sister Ann at Hadnal. Ann has no relationship shown but most others listed with Edward are as shown as servants/farm workers. This Ann's father was born at Hadnal. I know how Ann connects to my family but am wondering if her being there suggests any Billington-Acton family connections that might help me learn more about my Billington's. Would appreciate any hints. Anne in Aurora IL **************One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail. Try it now. 2. I have a wedding that occurred in July of 1819 at St. Mary's, Shrewsbury. The bride's maiden name is probably BARRETT or perhaps BARR. I am trying to get a lead on her family. She married John Billington probably born in the Hadnall. I have found varying ages for both of them but assume she was born from 1785-1795; perhaps in 1790. >From the 1841 census she was born in Shropshire. She died in the USA. I have tried many things to get a lead on her. A potential lead is that an 1863 family letter mentions a Dr. Barrett at Shrewsbury. I have tried some searches to locate a Dr. Barrett but have not spotted anything. Got your message. If you are from Shropshire, we are related. There is a book you can get in England called Boycott, the Man behind the name. Charles Arthur Boycott wrote it. There is a Nick Boycott in England too, who is a relation. We are related to Charles Cunningham Boycott who has made our name famous. I have tried too, to find family members and there appears to be quite a few in England, Austrailia, and Canada and of course the USA. My father was Eugene Walter Boycott, he passed away a few years ago. His father was Albert Boycott and he passed away when my father was 2 years old. My Great Grandfather was William Boycott and he came from England. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me again. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is entirely possible this is a solid link to Elizabeth's line by sibling connections. If it turns out to actually be the same Clement [believe me, I know about mutiple birth christenings for the same person!] there may be a possibility of the marriage license issue being in good time but the ceremony being conducted at a much later date due to familial complications, etc. I don't know if there is such a thing as newspaper archives this circa that would have published "banns" provided they were required to do so......... If I have opportunity to check I will read the titles of the film I have of Shropshire church records from Whitchurch area that goes to 1800. It may not have Wellington on it..........my goals were to read St. Alkmunds but there are others including Stokes S. area and some Wem. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! Yes Clement Dytor was the youngest of Abraham and Mary's children - Elizabeth Dytor's youngest brother. I have investigated him a little and according to 1891 he was gamekeeper at Stanton upon Hine Heath. He was 20 years younger than Elizabeth whose son Clement Bagley was born a year after her brother! I have searched for George and Elizabeth's marriage in Worcestershire but will certainly investigate the Redditch suggestion. On the 1861 page that I have the first two familes are listed at Lower Beighterton, then two families (including George and Elizabeth)listed at Beighterton, then the next family is listed at Beighterton House Farm.
