Parish burial records, in general, will give you the name of the person (if a child the name of the father - sometimes the mother), the place of residence (if in the country, generally a village or district), date, age, and who performed the service. I have probably saved hundreds, if not more, dollars by getting hold of the microfilms through the LDS folk at their family history library. For Ellesmere, for instance, I have quite a few hundred pages in A4 files of BMDs for little cost. Hope this helps. Graham Melbourne Oz

    3. Charlie, While Americans have the "DAR", in the Canadians have the "United Empire Loyalists". Google has plenty of results for them. Also, many of the Loyalists claimed compensation from the British Government and the PRO in London has these records among the Treasury records. Hope this helps David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat & Charlie Can anyone on this forum tell me where in UK records I might find information on American Loyalists who fought for George III and died in the war in America? One of my g+uncles, who married into a Loyalist family, went to Canada after the war. His father-in-law and a brother-in-law were killed in the battle of Charleston, South Carolina. We know the father-in-laws name, but the son's name is not shown in records here we have seen. We have good information on the Canadian settlement, but the land petitions do not give a name for the deceased son. Any lead to a possible UK source, death list, etc, would be greatly appreciated. 3. Thanks, David. Have been on the UE Loyalists site, and others. Have found good info on UEL, but that's all info after they got to Canada. My G+uncle, Anthony DOHERTY Jr (var sp) married Mary McCOOL in Orange County, North Carolina, in 1788. The McCOOL family were Loyalists (Tories??) and they went to Canada in 1794. Mary McCOOL's father, Archibald, and one of his sons (unnamed but perhaps George), were killed in the Battle of Charleston, South Carolina. I thought there might be records in UK about these Loyalists who died in that war. Archibald's widow, and Anthony DOHERTY jr, received land grants in Canada. 1. [ENG-SHROP] Info on Shropshire death certificates?
    2. Barbara Petura
    3. Hello, I recently received an April 23, 1866 marriage license for Benjamin Booth and Jane Ebrey for Prees, Shropshire. So I have a sense of what is on marriage records for that period, for example, father's name and occupation but not mother's name. My question is, what content is found on death records for the 1800s for Shropshire, starting in 1837? Do they have birth and death dates and places? Are the names of any relatives included? I do plan to order several more marriage records, and would order several death records if they would really help me with my family history research. Thanks to all the helpful folks on this list! I would guess this might refer to some sort of narrow gauge track for the movement of local material. The Gazetteer of Shropshire Place Names doesn't include anything like Mown Wood, so is there any chance there could be an alternative spelling.
