hello Marea, The Yorkshire Archaeological Society (http://www.laplata.co.uk/yas/content/about.html ) has transcribed and published many parish registers and other records. They were responisble for publishing 5 or 6 volumes of the early Sheffield Parish Registers, for example. I'm not sure whether you are saying your ancestors were buried at Woodhouse or Balby?! The earlier reference to Balby was the 'Balby Monthly Meeting' (Balby MM) which you could compare with a Parish - it might cover an extensive area and several settlements. Because the concentration of Quakers varied from place to place, the town picked as a centre may seem surprising - presumably there were lots of Quakers in Balby and not so many in Sheffield or Woodhouse. Balby MM dates from the beginnings of the Society of Friends: "Monthly Meetings in 1669 The following were created at the Yorkshire Quarterly Meeting held in March 1669, at which George Fox was present: Balby Monthly Meeting (1669 - ), West Riding [comprising Balby, Cinderhill, Fishlake and Sheffield] (and thirteen other MMs) http://www.hull.ac.uk/oldlib/archives/quaker/1669.htm" It is likely that there was a larger burial ground at Balby for the main Monthly Meeting. It would not be surprising if, sometimes, people from the subordinate meetings, such as Woodhouse, were buried there.
