Hi everyone I've just found my friends Gt Grandparents living in 1871 at 127 Dun Street, Attercliffe cum Darnall. Can anyone tell me where this Dun Street used to be? I know there is - still to this day - a Dun Street at Kelham Island. However in 1871 census says that the particular Dun Street we're interested in had - according to the enumerator's book - over 235 addresses in it. The Dun Street at Kelham Island is not - as far as I can see - long enough to have over 230 houses in it. The enumerators book say that 'our' Dun Street is in: - the township of Attercliffe cum Darnall; - the municipal ward of Attercliffe; and - the Ecclesiastical District of Christ Church. I've gone through all the copies of the 1871 enumerators book in which 'our' Dun Street appears and it definitely says Dun Street - and not something like Don Street (which is over towards Rotherham) The rest of the entries in his book are for addresses in the Carbrook area - i.e. Carbrook Lane, Short Street etc. These are at the very top end of Brightside. So I'm assuming that 'our' Dun Street was in the same area as well. But I can't find it anywhere on any map - new or old. Was 'our' Dun Street renamed or did it disappear under development years later - i.e under steel works that were built in Brightside? Can anyone pin-point where Dun Street in Attercliffe cum Darnall was? Regards Patrick
