Hello, I am a new subscriber to this list. My main surname interests are MORTON and BATTY,both from Sheffield. Although I already have a lot of information there is one particular sticking point. I have recently received the marriage certificate for my ggrandfather Frederick Morton. In 1866 he married Ann Smith in Norton Parish Church. His address at the time of marriage was Four Lane Ends. Ann's address was Derbyshire Lane. In Column 7 the groom's mother is listed instead of father. Her name was Selina Morton. Can anyone find her on the 1861 census? I need to know if Fred is listed as her son or perhaps nephew, as on his birth certificate in 1846 his parents were Matthew and Ann Morton. I have not been able to trace these people in any census,I think perhaps they both died young and left Fred with relatives. Either that or I have been chasing the wrong Frederick Morton for the last 12 months. Any help or ideas would be most welcome. Thankyou Lesley Shaw. Lesley
