The Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour (WWII) has been indexed for the counties of Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire. It is on Genuki. It was referenced in a post on Yorksgen. The url is: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Indexes/NE_WarDead/index.html There are many deaths from Sheffield recorded, although I think the most in these counties were from Hull. I see several surnames that have been asked about on this group. -- Harry Dodsworth Ottawa Ontario Canada af877@freenet.carleton.ca ----------------------------------------------------------------

He took a direct hit from a bomb whilst firespotting in Sheffield during the blitz. The hole in the ground at the back of the Magnet pub was there for many years after and could still be there as far as I know.
