    3. Hi I wondered if SKS has the index to 1841 census and would mind checking to see if they a Charles Nell born abt 1827 Sheffield., and any possible family he might be with. Parents could be George and Martha. There could be a number by the name of Charles, so please do not go to any trouble on this if there are. Charles went on to marry Harriet LAWTON and have nine children? Many thanks Regards Gwen Nadin

    3. Hi Noddie, I found the following Charles on the 1861 census index........The 1851 census I believe is being indexed by the SDFHS and will take about a year I have been told..... NELL Charles 32 YKS Sheffield 3462 29B There are only two Charles Nell's on the 1861 census that I can see. You can check on the SDFHS site for the missed names.......from their diskettes. 3. hello Gwen, Brian Richerby bjr@lineone.net has been a member of this list (the last posting I have was from a year ago). He has an interest in the NELL surname. Some time ago we corresponded about the following family: 1841 census ref: piece 1335 e.d. 6 folio 16B Hollis Croft (Sheffield) George NELL 50 Fender M[aker] Y Martha NELL 48 Y Thomas NELL 17 Fender Grinder Y Hannah NELL 14 Metal Polisher Y Charles NELL 12 Fender M[aker] Y Martha NELL 9 Y Samuel NELL 6 Y [*] Sarah BURTON 69 Y [Sarah BURTON has a tick in the 'inhabited' column which suggests the beginning of a new household BUT the usual 'double slash' mark for a new household is after her entry. So it's not clear which household she belongs to] Brian told me that the Thomas in this family was his 3xGt Grandfather Hugh in Sheffield ----- Original Message ----- From: "Noddie" <7thwave@ihug.co.nz> To: <ENG-SHEFFIELD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 11:53 PM Subject: [SHEFF] 1851 census -Charles Nell Sheffield area > Hi > I wondered if SKS has the index to 1841 census and would mind checking to > see if they a Charles Nell born abt 1827 > Sheffield., and any possible family he might be with.
