Hunters Hallamshire was re-issued just after his death in 1861. It was edited by the Rev Gatty and (I think) came out in 1863. This re-issue included a lot more material from Joseph Hunter himself. This almost certainly is the one you are after - it is indeed a big book, much bigger than the original Regards. Peter Charles in rural Buckinghamshire (Joseph Hunter's third half grand nephew - or so my software tells me)
WOW!!!!! What a fabulous list this is! Many thanks to Peter, Josephine, Judy, Phil, Cathy and Connie for all the information, particularly as most of it came through in time for me to pay another visit to the library (rather limited for time in my lunch break). Phil hit the nail right on the head the book I was after was the South Yorkshire one which I now have in my possession albeit only for a couple of weeks:- South Yorkshire - The History and Topography of the Deanery of Doncaster. Volume 2", Rev. Joseph Hunter (Printed 1831) ISNB 1 903832 46 2 Price £10.00 CD Also available as an A4 spiral-bound book Price £20.00 It hadnt occurred to me that there was a Hallamshire section in another book. Cathy thanks for the image of the STEAD pedigree from Familiae Minorum Gentium which came through perfectly. Its given me even more information for my tree (though I know some of it cant be proven). I think Ill have to invest in a copy of Hallamshire, South Yorkshire and Familiae Minorum Gentium myself. I know I can get the first one on CD from Colin Hinson (thanks Judy) but dont know where to get the other two (suggestions welcome please - I think Id prefer the books to CD where possible as I could take them anywhere to read). Thanks again to everyone Ive a big smile on my face this evening! Kind regards.
