    1. RE: [SHEFF] Froggatt Lane 1840's

    3. Hi Marie I've just had a look at my map and Froggatt Lane is right there in the city centre. At the moment from what I can remember it is flanked by old buildings (on one side at least) that would certainly have been involved in cutlery. I know this because in recent years I have been attending Sheffield Hallam University which is one street away and I used to park my car next to Froggatt lane (I've just found out). I also used to come into that part of Sheffield many years ago to collect cutlery but I guess few streets anywhere in Sheffield escaped the cutlery trade. Next time I go to a meeting I will take a look to check out if I am thinking about the right street and I will check out the lower part of the lane to see what is there. > Does anyone have any information about Froggatt Lane in the 1840's, such > as was it in the centre of the city of Sheffield or was it on the > outskirts of Sheffield.? Was it part of the cutlery industry etc.? > > My ggrandfather George Barber apparently was born at 7 Froggatt Lane > Sheffield.
