Good Morning Listers, My gr-gr-gr grandfather was a "Hawker" by trade and it was when he and his family were in Sheffield that their eldest son, Daniel Hanniff (age 21 months) passed away. According to his death certificate the family was living at Ship Ct, Water Lane, Sheffield West at the time of his death. Can anyone tell me in what parish this would be located. Or in what cemetery he would have been buried. I would appreciate any help that is offered. Ken Coones

For the benefit of other lister-members: "He died on August 26, 1846 and it was registered on August 28, 1846" Water Lane was where the South Yorkshire police headquarters is, near the markets in Sheffield - so, in the centre of the town. I note from one of the pub books that The Ship was at 31 Water Lane. The Ship Ct [Court] was probably associated with the pub. The nearest burial places would be Sheffield Parish Church (now the Cathedral) and St Paul's. I have the index for the first of these but I cannot find this child. In fact I am struggling to find any people with this surname in the resources I have. Do you know where it comes from?
