HI List, I have just found a new branch to mine and Gordon's Gathercole family in Sheffield and hoping to find connections to two other families. Before 1881, our 3xgreat grandfather William Gathercole came into Sheffield with his wife Elizabeth and daughters. Hannah [Johnson/Stimson, Gordon's great-grandmother ] Betsy Ann [Bruce ] Haven't manged traced anyone from this line yet, but there is a connection to the BOWLES family. And my great-grandfather George David Clow Gathercole. As far as I knew, they had left behind married son William and daughters Mary [Mott ] and Rebecca, in Cambs. I have recently been sent the 81/91/1901 census and found to my surprise, that Mary had also come to Sheffield with her husband James and children. David, born Manea, James Herbert born Sheffield, Edith Ellen and Ethel born Sheffield. On the 81 they are living at Sycamore Place nearr Baltic Road, 91 they are living at Baker street off Attercliffe Common. On the 1901, James is widowed and living at Vicarage Road, which I think is Attercliffe.On every census, his occupation is Insurance Agent. I have found Mary's burial at Darnall cemetery in 1899. I checked freebmd and found the marriages of Edith Ellen in 1901 and Ethel in 1905. It appears that they both married men named Kirby. I have checked the 1901 census and found that these two appear to be brothers but have to do further research in the archives parish records on this. So, what I am looking for, is any one researching the names of MOTT, KIRBY and BRUCE, as there may be further information to find. I also live in the hope that someone, somewhere, may have photo's of the Gathercole family. thanks, Carol Sheffield
