Hi list members: I have a question concerning the ecclesiastical parish in the 1861 census for the John and Matilda BROOMHEAD family in Ecclesall Bierlow township of Sheffield. I notice it says Gilcar or Gillcar for the parish. Is this the name of their church or is it a neighborhood, or were they, perhaps, not members of the Church of England? I have never noticed this in any of the census or other information I have learned about the family before. I am curious can this lead me to learn more about their marriage, or the christenings of their children, one of whom was my great grandmother Anne BROOMHEAD? Any help will be most appreciated.
