He has always been an associate of thieves, and has never done an honest days work to my knowledge. He belongs to a gang that are a menace to the neighbourhood of Spring Street, and its difficult to get witnesses to come to court to speak against them they are so terrorised. They dare not speak the truth about them" Such was the description given at Sheffield Quarter Sessions by Chief Inspector Andrew of Edward GARVEY (34), a brute who had kicked an innocent woman in a manner that might have caused her death, and who fortunately will be doing hard labour for the next 18 months......................... SHAMBLES OUTRAGE The perpetrators of the recent outrage on sheep in the Sheffield Killing Shambles appeared at the Sheffield Police Court. They were four small boys the oldest being 12 yrs of age who came from Porter Street, Burgess Street, Pinstone Street and Cross Burgess Street and they all admitted having maliciously maimed a sheep belonging to David CRAWSHAW, butcher. The four boys went into the Shambles on Sunday 26th March where they obtained ropes which they fastened around the necks of the sheep awaiting slaughter. They then mounted the animals and rode them up and down the yard until the animals were exhausted. One fell down and broke its neck. The magistrates ordered each of the delinquents to receive six strokes of the birch rod.
