Bramhall Lane is one of the best known streets in Sheffield. However in the old directories, it seems to be spelt Brammall Lane. I have a birth and death certificate from the 1840s and again Brammall is the spelling - I would expect the registrar to be able to spell correctly. Did the spelling change and, if so, when and why? A Google search lists: Bramhall 1190; Brammall 447; Bramall 214; Bramhal 2 Of course many of the references were written by football fans :-) -- Harry Dodsworth Ottawa Ontario Canada af877@freenet.carleton.ca ----------------------------------------------------------------
