    3. I would like to know how I can find out about a death of my great grandfather William T Parr. He died at home in Napier St in 1929 and I would like to find out where he is buried. I know that he is not buried in the churchyard as have had contact there. He lived with his daughter Emily S Addington and she was present at his death. Where would the local burials be in which cemetery. Did they have cremations then or were they not fashionable. Someone searched the national burial records but his did not appear so this is a mystery Any kind soul out there that would help me Eunice - Australia

    3. Hi Eunice, Re William Parr. One of the problems that you have is that it is still a fairly recent (1929) burial so will not likely show up on any of the burial indexes that have already been completed. I have checked the burial indexes I have but he doesn't show up on any of them and I have a large number of them. I believe that cremation started at City Road Cemetery about 1905........... but earth burials were certainly more the norm. City Road Cemetery do have an index and they will search it for you but at a charge........ http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/environment/how-we-work/bereavement/cemeteries the URL explains about many of the Cemeteries in the Sheffield area and they maybe worth contacting. 3. Eunice, The obvious choice for burial of someone dying in Napier Street would be the General Cemetery on Cemetery Road which is right on the doorstep to Napier Street. You say that "he is not buried in the churchyard," do you mean the General Cemetery or some other church? I'm not sure if the S&DFHS have done a burial index for the General Cemetery (maybe someone else on the list can tell you if they have) but if you haven't tried the General Cemetery maybe you might find out if your GG is buried there by contacting the "Friends of the General Cemetery," their postal, e-mail and web addresses are below, Friends of the General Cemetery Angus Hunter The Cemetery Gatehouse Sheffield General Cemetery Cemetery Avenue Sheffield S11 8NT Tel: 0114 268 3486 Email: sgct@gencem.wanadoo.co.uk Web: http://www.gencem.org/ Best Wishes Jeremy Crawshaw Crookes SHEFFIELD ---------------------------------------------------- Outgoing Mail protected by: NORTON Internet Security 2004 Updated: 2nd April 2005 ---------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phil Goude" <prgdesgn@tpg.com.au> To: <ENG-SHEFFIELD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 19, 2005 3:42 PM Subject: [SHEFF] parish records for ecclesall >I would like to know how I can find out about a death of my great grandfather William T Parr.
