I know from experience that travellers representing large Firms could be stationed abroad for some time and he may well have taken his wife with him. Representatives were sent all over the World to look for Trade. Hi This is very true, and my great grandmother was born in Brooklyn, New Yorks whilst my Gt.Gt.grandfather was abroad with his wife. He was a salesman according to the shipping manifest but I have no idea what he sold. It was 1824 so your guess is as good as mine.
