Hi List and Elaine, Thankyou Elaine for the list of street names circa 1700. I have been trying to find out how far back the naming of Dixon Lane took place... I knew it was on Goslings Map and there were references to it, but I have not yet figured out which Dixon it was named for. Hay Market is evocative as at least one of the Dixons was running the Sheffield Market in the 1730's. the naming of the street would now seem to precede this particular Dixon... Has anyone any ideas on this subject, or are there any particular references which I could refer to which might give the source and authority for the naming of Sheffield Streets? kindest regards, Josephine, Ontario, Canada. -----Original Message----- From: Elaine Pickard [mailto:trayford@rogers.com] Sent: March 5, 2005 2:09 PM To: ENG-SHEFFIELD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SHEFF] Sheffield Street Names...
