Hello Richard, I've just checked the baptisms at Stannington Presbyterian and found quite a few ARMITAGE'S. Stannington was a well known area of Nonconformity and many people attended Stannington Presbyterian (later to become a Unitarian Church), now called Underbank Chapel, Stannington, which is still there to this day. All of my own CRAWSHAW family were Razor Grinders from Stannington, Storrs, Hilltop & Dungworth in Bradfield Parish and although I haven't found any of their christenings at Underbank I have found many of my BRADWELL & OATES families that attended there. Back to the christenings I told you about, these are all from Underbank Chapel (formerly Stannington Presbyterian), John ARMITAGE (Chr: 10th October 1743) Son of: Samuel ARMITAGE Aaron ARMITAGE (Chr: 28th April 1745) Son of: Samuel ARMITAGE Mary ARMITAGE (Chr: 16th November 1746) Daughter of: Samuel ARMITAGE Martha ARMITAGE (Chr: 14th August 1748) Daughter of: Samuel ARMITAGE Samuel ARMITAGE (Chr: 11th April 1750) Son of: Samuel ARMITAGE Adam ARMITAGE (Chr: 18th July 1753) Son of: Samuel ARMITAGE John ARMITAGE (Chr: 29th May 1773) Son of: Samuel ARMITAGE Hannah ARMITAGE (Chr: 4th February 1776) Daughter of: Samuel ARMITAGE Sarah ARMITAGE (Chr: 27th December 1777) Daughter of: Samuel ARMITAGE Samuel ARMITAGE (Chr: 19th July 1782) Son of: Samuel ARMITAGE William ARMITAGE (Chr: 20th March 1785) Son of: Samuel & Sarah ARMITAGE George ARMITAGE (Born: 9th June 1786 - 3rd July 1786) Son of: Samuel & Sarah ARMITAGE Elizabeth ARMITAGE (Born: 1st July 1789 - Chr: 23rd July 1789) Daughter of: Samuel & Sarah ARMITAGE Sarah ARMITAGE (Chr: 3rd November 1789) Daughter of: Samuel ARMITAGE Amelia ARMITAGE (Born: 20th May 1793 - Chr: 5th June 1793) Daughter of: James & Sarah ARMITAGE Joseph ARMITAGE (Born: 11th June 1796 - Chr: 15th June 1796) Son of: Samuel & Sarah ARMITAGE John ARMITAGE (Born: 23rd October 1800 - Chr: 16th November 1800) Son of: John & Hannah ARMITAGE Samuel ARMITAGE (Born: 7th July 1802 - Chr: 1st August 1802) Son of: John & Hannah ARMITAGE Mary ARMITAGE (Born: 12th October 1804 - Chr: 14th November 1804) Daughter of: John & Hannah ARMITAGE Joseph ARMITAGE (Born: 23rd November 1806 - Chr: 22nd January 1807) Son of: John & Hannah ARMITAGE Amelia ARMITAGE (Born: 4th July 1816 - Chr: 4th August 1816) Daughter of: William & Sarah ARMITAGE Samuel ARMITAGE (Born: 30th June 1819 - Chr: 4th July 1819) Son of: William & Sarah ARMITAGE George ARMITAGE (Born: 4th February 1829 - Chr: 5th July 1829) Son of: Joseph & Harriet ARMITAGE Mary ARMITAGE (Born: 30th June 1833 - Chr: 8th September 1833) Daughter of: Joseph & Harriet ARMITAGE Samuel ARMITAGE (Born: 1st August 1833 - Chr: 8th September 1833) Son of: Joseph & Harriet ARMITAGE There are also quite a few ARMITAGE family members at Bradfield on the IGI. Hope that this is of use Richard. Best Wishes Jeremy Crawshaw (Temp. Connie has sent me an Alphabetical transcript of both the 1841 and the 1851 Bradfield censuses. These three 1851 Armitages appear to be sons of Joseph and Harriott Armitage of Knowle End, Stannington in the 1841 census. In the 1841 census, there are (with ages rounded down) Ann Armitage age 70 Thomas Armitage age 55 grinder Joseph Armitage age 40 grinder Alfred Armitage age 25 razor grinder I am guessing, but I think Ann is the widowed mother of the three sons, Thomas, Joseph and Alfred. I think Thomas is unmarried and living with his mother Ann. I've been looking without success for Christenings or marriages of these Armitages in the LDS IGI (from Bradfield & Stannington church records - Bishop's transcripts). (I found the christenings of Alfred Armitage's sons, but the church records for Stannington don't go any earlier than 1830) Any ideas on other sources that are available to me here in Richmond VA, USA?
