You don't happen to know if there was a quarry nearby do you - he, and his brother, were in the quarrying business? Hi John Not in the immediate neighbourhood but there was one at Ringinglow about 2/3 miles away. I think it is still working today. Ringinglow is a little village on the hill above Fulwood if you are looking at a map. To get there from the cottages you would have had a walk across the fields and up a very steep field called Jacob's ladder or a longer way round by road. They may have been employed elsewhere but that is the one in the immediate neighbourhood. Small quarries sprung up even in the corner of a field to build local houses but I think that is the most likely. Hope this helps, Best wishes JUDY ELKINGTON _www.elkingtonfamily.com_ (http://www.elklingtonfamily.com/) ELKINGTON-L@rootsweb.com
