    3. My G.G.Grandmother.ELIZABETH STEELE .( STEEL) Married my G.G.Grandfather THOMAS GLAVES in Dronfield in 1833. Her place of birth is given as Italy B.S. Which I presume means British Subject .Which would indicate her father was British. I have tried to trace the Italian Birth looking for a military connection , with no success. They were living in Sheffield in 1881. Does anyone have any suggestions Ken Hunt Ontario Canada

    3. Hi Ken, I wonder if you have considered other reasons why someone may have been born abroad other than the Military that is... I know from experience that travellers representing large Firms could be stationed abroad for some time and he may well have taken his wife with him. Representatives were sent all over the World to look for Trade. Other reasons may be that they had travelled to Italy for the health of one or more members of the family. The man may have married an Italian wife and gone to live there. One other reason that I can think of is that her father may have been connected in some way with the British Government ie working at an Embassy etc...I have an instance of one of the family marrying in an Embassy in Paris for just that reason. Lastly the Birth may have been registered with the British Embassy in Italy or even in England if the child's father was British. I am sure there are other reasons which I haven't thought of. Hope this helps...Did you find the family on other censuses which may give more details of the wife's birth location (not just Italy)? regards, Josephine, Ontario, Canada. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kenneth.R.
