Hi, I subscribed to this list a while ago. I then had problems with my computer and unsubscribed to spend what feels like a lifetime sorting out the Tree again. I have come to the proverbial brickwall with two of my husbands uncles - Charles William MARSDEN and John Edward MARSDEN. I found their birth certificates quite quickly but their marriages are a different story. I have sent for several marriage certificates but have had no luck in finding the correct matches. I am hoping that someone, somewhere will recognise the following family details and be kind enough to contact me. Violet Ellen MARSDEN is also proving to be rather elusive......... ********************************************** William MARSDEN married his first wife, Clara BULLOSS, in the Parish Church of St Mary, Walkley, Sheffield in 1888. He married his second wife, Ellen GREAVES, at the Parish Church, Sheffield in 1904. On the marriage certificate his age is given as 39 years, occupation painter. The brides age is given as 32 years - fathers name Charles GREAVES (dec'd) occupation grinder. William and Ellen had the following children all born in Sheffield except John Edward who was born in Boulton, Derby. Charles William born 1895 - John Edward born 1898 - Violet Ellen born 1899 - Elizabeth Jane born 1902- Nellie born 1904 - Ernest William born 1907 - Elsie born 1910 - Florence Winifred born 1916 Oral history says that John worked in the Labour Exchange in Sheffield. Charles sold fruit and veg - but we don't know if he had a shop, a market stall or a barrow. Violet became a nurse and left Sheffield. Did she marry? Where did she go? Ellen GREAVES first husband was Joseph SMITHSON - they married 1895 in Sheffield.. Ellens second husband - William MARSDEN - details above. Her third husband was George Thompson IRONMONGER - they married 1933 in Lincolnshire. I am hoping that someone will recognise the above family and can help me to fill in the gaps. TIA Joan (in Buckinghamshire)
