Hello, I wonder if anyone has the actual 1841 census that might fill the additional information I need for this family. Piece No: 1337/5 ED: 10 Folio: 27b Charles Street, Sheffield South John DRIVER age 50 Hannah DRIVER age 58 William DRIVER age 25 Elizabeth DRIVER age 20 My problem is that there is a Caroline DRIVER age 20 and an Elizabeth DRIVER age 15 at this same address and I have no idea how they are related. I have a hunch they do not, but if relationships were shown in the 1841 census that would be great. The information as to whether they were all born in the county and a page number would be a big help. Did Schedule Numbers exist for the 1841? I know that they rounded off the ages which might explain why both Elizabeth and Caroline are 20 if indeed they are sisters but does not explain why they would have two children with the name Elizabeth. Perhaps the youngest one is grandchild but without relationships it is hard to tell. Thanks for any help. Judy Woodley BC, Canada
hello Judy, Unfortunately the 1841 census does not give relationships. This is how this household is shown in the original (with its slightly eccentric order). Is it possible that the older Elizabeth is married to William ?! // John DRIVER 50 ivory cutter Y William DRIVER 25 ivory cutter Y Hannah DRIVER 58 F.S. Y Caroline DRIVER 20 Y Elizabeth DRIVER 20 Y Elizabeth DRIVER 15 Y / Robert IBBOTSON 2 Y // The slash marks are the original marks used to divide and subdivide the households. So Robert IBBOTSON is part of the household, though his actual status (lodger, visitor, some family relationship (?) is unknown. This census does not have schedule numbers. The folio number 27b is equivalent is essentially a page number.
