If the will was dated 1857, the implication is that the testator was alive and well enough to have a will drafted for at least part of that year. Probate may have been granted after the cut-off date above. At only £5.00 for a search, you could take a chance. It's certainly cheaper than trawling through archives yourself.     3. Hi Jack, Try the Borthwick Institute - http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/bihr/ - I've had several from there myself. Usually about GBP 5 a throw if you can give them a probate date so they don't have to search.
