Dear All, Being an ex-Heeleyite the Yorkshire/Derbyshire border was the Meers Brook, part of which runs in Meersbrook Park before being culverted under Valley Road (including the cellar of my grandfather's house!), then flowing into the Sheaf somewhere by the end of Albert Road. It was here there used to be a toll bar across London Road. In Canon Odom's History of Sheffield, Heeley is described as being full of dodgy characters who would skip across county boundary whenever the bailiffs appeared!! Meer means boundary and the brook was the boundary between Northumbria and Mercia, between Yorkshire and Derbyshire, and between the Provinces of York and Canterbury. Chris Reaney (S.
