Hullo John I can't help you with your request but do have an interest in the surname MUSSON, partucularly one WILLIAM EDWARD MUSSON who was born 6 March 1831 in Burton Coggles, Lincolnshire. His parents were WILLIAM MUSSON, born 8 Nov 1791 at Hough, LIN and Penelope Coulson, presumably from Lincolnshire. In researching the surname MUSSON I find there are great hordes of them in Lincolnshire - still worth the enquiry to see if any of theses names turn up in your research. WILLIAM EDWARD MUSSON was a doctor in Clitheroe, LAN [as was his son REGINALD COULSON MUSSON]. There is a tenuous Sheffield connection - WEM's wife was SUSSANAH CATHERINE ROBINSON. Her brother ARTHUR INGRAM ROBINSON was married to ROSANNA CHAMBERS of the Sheffield steel manufacturing family of Chambers Newton. I told you it was tenuous! My wife's great grndfather HENRY JOHN ROBINSON was a brother to the ROBINSONS mentioned above and brother in law to WEM. There is also a Rev FRANCIS MUSSON [1821 - 1895] in the mix. Talking of hordes another sister, one MATILDA JANE ROBINSON married one, NORMAN WATNEY of brewery fame. The WATNEYS seem to have occupied most of south central and south west London. They are everywhere. As always with genealogy it is a feast or a famine! Best regards John Elmes. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Readman" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2007 9:27 PM Subject: [SHEFF] Eccleshall Union Workhouse 1891 > Hi all, > > One of the surnames I have been researching is the Musson family, who > were clockmakers and jewellers. > > William Martin Musson Wm Martin Musson, 53, watchmaker, born Louth > was living in Eccleshall Bierlow in 1891, and in Hallam in 1901. > > His son, also William, aged 22, a law solicitor's clerk in 1891, was in > Eccleshall Union workhouse in 1891, when it seems to have full of all > sorts of professional men, so I wondered if it was being used like a > YMCA, when I thought no one was encouraged to go to the workhouse as > conditions were so harsh inside. > > Has anyone else on this list have relations who were in this workhouse > then, or know what was the workhouse was used for in 1891? > > I have looked at an excellent website about workhouses in the area and > according to the photographs on the site and the maps it was of a fair > size at one time. > > http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?EcclesallBierlow/EcclesallBierlow.shtml > > John Readman > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.503 / Virus Database: 269.15.10/1091 - Release Date: 24/10/07 2:31 PM > >
