Hi All I am trying to learn more about Vernon WILDGOOSE alias MARSHALL who was living at 17 Well Meadow St, St Annes, Netherthorpe, Sheffield age 10 on the 1901 census. Full name given as Vernon Gerald George Marshall on sons marriage certificate. I believe that his name was changed to Marshall before his Army service started (1915) and his marriage took place later. Can anyone tell me what school he was likely to have attended around 1901 please? I think that I need to try to find him in any school records if this is possible. I believe that Vernon WILDGOOSE was the son of Ann Milland/Melland WILDGOOSE. He was born around 1891 in/around Ranmoor, Upper Hallam, Sheffield. Thanks Dave (UK Derby)
hello Dave, Netherthorpe School is close to Well Meadow Street. The address in 1901 was Bethel Street, though it is now listed as Netherthorpe Street (the same building though, I believe). Searching the Sheffield Archives catalogue at http://www.a2a.org.uk I found this... Sheffield Education Department, School Records Catalogue Ref. CA 749, CA 767-769 Creator(s): Sheffield Education Department [from Scope and Content] Netherthorpe School, attendance registers; sample paperwork re: Nursery Voucher Scheme [CA 767]; .... No dates listed and other school records under the same headings were very recent. Some schools keep hold of their records. You could always ask the school if they have theirs. You can search for their contact details here: http://eduplugins.sheffield.gov.uk/schools/ Could this be Vernon's birth: GRO Births MAR Qtr 1891 Wildgoose Gerald Ecclesall B. 9c 364 ...and could he be the imaginatively recorded 'Jerrala' Wildgoose 'g.dau' aged 1 month in the 1891 census, in the same household as Melland Wildgoose?
