Hi all My thanks to all who responded to my message. You have certainly helped to make things more clear for me. I think I have to go along with "Building Contractor, General Labourer". It is known he was a bricklayer in the 1960/70s so it does sort of fit. I was put off somewhat trying to figure out why a private was listed as a general "labourer". However, now its clear that the civilian occupation was included it does make sense.
