    3. Hello Sheffield List: I'm subscribing to this list because I have an elusive ancestor who was born in Lancashire County but died in Sheffield, East Brightside. His name is Matthew PYRE b. 1860 d. 1918. He is my great grandfather but was never married to my great grandmother even though they had two children together. He was living with a woman from Sheffield named Sarah E. in 1891. By 1894 he was living with my great grandmother, had a daughter named Sabina in 1895 and 3 months before the birth of my grandmother in 1897 they separated. He was to have taken custody of Sabina but in the 1901 census he was back living with Sarah E. and there was no sign of Sabina. Interestingly there was, in 1901, a son named Albert, 8 yrs old, born in Sheffield. It makes me think Sarah E. was pregnant in 1893, left Matthew, and went back to Sheffield to have the baby. Matthew and Sarah E. had a couple more kids as well. A boy named Sam in 1898 and a girl name May in 1904. He also had kids from a previous marriage born in Wharfedale and Holbeck. My assumption is, because he died in Sheffield, that Sarah E. took him back to her hometown when he became ill. I have never found a death record or burial or anything. I got the information on his death from a relative who is a member of the LDS church. If anyone on this list recognizes these names or the story or can offer any advice with regard to finding death records, I would be very grateful. His other children from previous marriage are Jane PYRE , Elizabeth PYRE (married Fred Parker) both born in Holbeck. The two boys born in Wharfedale died while very young. Thank you Tracey B

    3. Tracey, Do you have his death certificate? It's in the GRO index as 1918 March Quarter District:Sheffield Volume:9c Page:807. His age was 65. It would tell you where he died and also the name of the informant registering the death.
