    3. Oxley's! I hate them! OK, It's not their fault but they are causing me a merry dance... In the 1861 census I have John and Elizabeth Rodgers, 40 & 29, son John, 18, & William Oxley - Brother in Law. it seems likely that Elizabeth must be an Oxley and this appears to be backed up by the 1860 Barnsley marriage of John Rodgers (39, widower) and Elizabeth Oxley (28, spinster). Then along comes the 1871 census and my world turns upside down... John and Elizabeth Rodgers 28 & 34, along with boys Edward William and John Arthur 9 & 6 - This has to be the son, right! However a purchase of both the boys birth cert's reveal that this Elizabeth is also an Oxley, but who is she! The 1881 census is no help at all, in fact it chucks in it's own mystery - Elizabeth is now a widow (42), Edward W (19) and John A (16) are there too so it's the same family - but who is Emma Jackson, Aunt, 67, born Rotherham? - She could provide the key but I can't identify her in any other census. So therefore Oxley's - I hate them! (sorry) Kevin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Liz" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 6:26 PM Subject: Re: [SHEFF] Oxley > Let's keep the OXLEYS going then!!!!!
