Hi Charlotte. Welcome to the list. The name of the street in the 1851 census is "Sussex" St. I have had a hand in transcribing the indexes for Sheffield Register Office, only the year is entered in the index so it automatically defaults to 1/1/YYYY. As Charlotte was living in the Sheffield Park District, I would try for a birth certificate in the Dec Q of 1853 or March Q 1854. Also bear in mind that not all births were registered before the births and deaths act of 1874. Before 1875 the onus was on the registrar to register a birth, after this the responsibility passed to whosoever was present at the birth, and a penalty was introduced for non-registration within 42 days. If you can't find Joseph's birth certificate...see if you can find one of the other childrens and this will confirm the mothers maiden name. St John's Park district is on the corner of Bernard St and Cricket Inn Rd...It is not St John's at Owlerton Kind Regards Angela Eckington U.K. _________________________________________________________________ Celeb spotting – Play CelebMashup and win cool prizes https://www.celebmashup.com/index2.html
