Hi I have just joined the Sheffield list as I am doing some research on my husband's family from Sheffield His mother's family include Joseph WRIGHT (bn 1853 Sheffield) and married to Martha SANDERSON (bn 1854 Sheffield) lived in Sheffield in 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 then came to Canada first in 1903 with most of the family following in 1905 James ELLIOT (bn abt 1852 Sheffield) and married to Thirza DAVIES (bn abt 1854 Dudley, WOR) Their daughter Eugenia Beatrice ELLIOT married Albert GOODLAD. He died about 1910 and Eugenia Beatrice (ELLIOTT) GOODLAD came to Canada and married Austin WRIGHT (son of Joseph and Martha above. ========= The mother of Joseph WRIGHT (1853) is Caroline WRIGHT (transcribed as Wight) in 1851 is living at the following census location in Sheffield 1851 Census: HO107 / 2341 folio 17 p. 26 District Sheffield, sub district Sheffield Park, Enumeration District #1 and I have Supra Street written down. Is this correct? I cannot find it on any recent maps so perhaps that street no longer exists or I read it incorrectly. The census information also says Eccl Parish St. John -- would this be St. John Owelerton on the parish map of Sheffield? I am looking for her son Joseph who has a birthdate of 21 Dec 1853. I have tried a couple of certificates from the GRO indexes which are near that date with no luck. I have also found Joseph 1/1/1855 48 16 Sheffield North on the Sheffield City Council site, Perhaps Joseph was registered in 1854 . Does anyone know what this date on the Sheffield City Council site means? All the dates are listed as 1/1/ year. Another possible is : Joseph 1/1/1851 16 39 Sheffield Park is also on the Sheffield City Council site, but 1851 is two years earlier than what I understand his birthdate to be. Most census info indicates the 1853 birthdate is correct. Her husband Joseph WRIGHT is still in Mattersey, NTT in the 1851 census, but they are both in Sheffield RG 9 / 3481 Folio 91 p. 8, Sheffield, Eccp Par St. Philiips in the 1861 census. I have to get the birth certificate , but I suspect Caroline's maiden name is BISHOP. Is anyone else researching any of these families? or can anyone me if I have the streetname correct?
