By "either man", I'm assuming (always dangerous!) that you mean William WATKINSON and Joseph BADGER... The only Joseph BADGERs indexed in the 1841 census as living in Sheffield were neither Plumbers nor Painters. However, on Pinfold St in 1841 there is the following WATKINSON family: Willm, 53, Painter Hs Ann, 51 (?) Ann, 27 Willm, 21, Painter Hs John COCKIN, 13, App all shown as born in the county.
