    1. [SHEFF] Mahony Birth Certificate
    2. Hi, I just sent to the GRO for 9 Mahony sibling birth certificates from Sheffield.(One was born in Halifax). They are the children of Joshua and Jane (Baker) Mahony. There were 13 children but many died stillborn. My direct descendant of Joshua Sr is Joshua Jr. and, lo and behold, he is the ONLY one whose Birth Index I cannot find on Ancestry.Com which would allow me to order his birth certificate. I have his birth date as 12 August 1860 from his US death certificate and the 1920 US Federal Census (just gave his age). I also have his birth date as August 1858 from various censuses in England and the US where they gave his age only. I have tried searching using MAHONEY, MAHONIE, MAHANY and a number of other possibilities. I've used wildcards using part of his first name and part of his surname. I've used his surname only. I've gone through the Birth Index original document to see if he was overlooked. I searched for his sister, Elizabeth Mahony, forever and no such luck. I searched the original documents and there she was with the birth year that I had and her correct name...no variations!! Ancestry just didn't pick her up for some reason.) Could I just be overlooking him somewhere? His father was Joshua and he was a Joshua so I don't think he had any other forename than Joshua. I put in a search for all Joshuas with a 2 year birthdate range to no avail. I then put in a search for all of England instead of just Sheffield and just Yorkshire like I had. There were two Joshua Mahonys but their birthdates were not in the ballpark. I keep thinking that, since I have everyone else's birth index in his family, his parents MUST have registered him, right? Well, maybe not. But, I still wonder if I am not finding him because his forename and surname are spelled horribly wrong or Ancestry didn't pick him up either. When should I give up? Does anyone have any suggestions on searching for his birth index in order to get a birth certificate? Thanks a bunch!! Terry in CT, USA (Joshua Jr.'s great great granddaughter) **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living.
