    3. Hi Mary, Absolutely Yes, research them! A married daughter would take the surname of her husband, and hence any children from that union also. If the daughter then died (say very young and in childbirth) and the widower couldn't afford a grave, the family would most likely chip in and pay for it and reserve their own 'resting place' at the same time. The families could also be related via siblings and cousins etc, so there are many permutations of possibility here. It could be that different families who were very good friends maybe shared the cost of a grave plot, which may be harder to resolve, but I'd certainly look into any relationship possibilities. AFAIK, there were no strictly held conventions about who should and should not be buried in a plot other than any set down by a particular family. Hope this helps. Kind regards John Woolsey (Bridlington E.Yorks). [email protected] wrote: Today's Topics: 1. Family plots in General Cemetery? To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Hi Everyone, Does anyone know whether people listed in the same grave in the Sheffield General Cemetery would be related? I found a pair of my relatives (a married couple) in the same grave with another unknown married couple (different surname) and two of their children, plus a child with yet another surname. I'm wondering if it makes sense to research these other people to see if they were related to my couple. The deaths occurred from 1871 to 1892, but three were buried in 1871. Thanks for any light you can shed on this. Mary B.
