Hello I’m new to this list but would love some help, or pointers in the right direction. My great-great grandfather was John Wadsworth, born 1845 and married to Martha Downes, they lived in Wickersley, Rotherham and owned/ran a stone quarry as far as I can tell in Silverwood. This appears to have been handed down to his 7 sons, John William, George Harry (my great grandfather)  Leonard Downes, Alvery Middleton, Edric Harold and Cyril Frederick. As far as I can tell John William Wadsworth started a timber merchant business. George Harry Wadsworth continued to run the stone quarry and handed it on to his sons as a quarry and haulage business. The other brothers may have helped with the stone quarry business but also ran two cinemas. The Wincobank Picture Palace and the Tinsely Picture Palace. I have just discovered in the 1944 phone book a business called Wadsworth Bros electricians around the corner from the Wincobank Picture Palace and wonder if this was anything to do with my great-grandfather and his brothers. I would love to know more about any or all of these businesses, what happened to them, does anyone remember anything about them? Where can I find out more?
