Hi All, After a visit to Wakefield archives where I found the court records for my g-g-g-grandfather William ROCH (born c.1833, died 1868) when he was imprisoned for 4 months after stealing from his employer. He was sentenced to hard labour for stealing from John Bosworth CROCKER on 29th December 1852, the trial took place on 7th January 1853. I've been quite lucky as I've got a copy of the statements made by John CROCKER and the policeman Joseph Tasker. John CROCKER was a Mercer & Furrier at 58 High Street, Sheffield. William stole 15 fur boas, 100 yards of ribbon and 1 pair of fur cuffs. I've done a bit of research on Mr CROCKER and discovered using the IGI that he was born c.1828 and died in 1885, although I've not found a death record for this time. He also has entries in the 1852 White's Sheffield & District Directory. I can't find him on any census though so I wondered if anyone can tell me which piece/folio/pages cover the High Street for the 1851 & 1861 census. Unfortunately it doesn't give the area of Sheffield so I can't be more precise. I'm also interested in whether a Healey Street existed in Sheffield at that time and if so what the piece/folio/pages were for the 1851 & 1861 census. I'm currently trying to transcribe everything so I may find more info as I read the documents in detail. Look forward to hearing from you kind people out there.
